When Pig hears a strange squeaking coming from his nose, he thinks something is very wrong. But eventually he realises that the noise is just a little bug. The two decide to be friends, but their difference in size soon becomes a BIG problem -- they can't seem to find anything that they can both enjoy. But when it comes to friendship, does size really matter?

Pig and Small by Alex Latimer is a fun, illustrated tale about an unlikely friendship between a pig and small bug (from the pictures I believe it’s an ant, though it never says). The story begins with Pig thinking something is terribly wrong with him as his nose has started to squeak. On close inspection though he finds that it’s not his nose squeaking rather it is something on his nose making the noise. The small bug and Pig begin a rather unusual friendship, each seeking activities they like to do and trying to do them together. Unfortunately as they soon find out, activities that Pig enjoys, bug cannot do and vice versa. So they go their separate ways. Unhappy, they find each other and decide to find an activity they can both enjoy, and so begins their unlikely friendship.

This story is filled with beautiful illustrations that kept my son’s attention (which let’s face it, at three and half that is a huge deal!!!) to the very end and even had him giggling. Especially when Pig tried to wear a sweater made by Bug. Too cute and too funny! It’s the perfect length for quiet time, bed time, or anytime.

Not only did my son love it, but I did too! The story has a great life lesson about friendship and overcoming differences. Overall, if you have a small child this is a wonderful story to add to their library. I highly recommend it 😀
