Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the girls over at The Broke and the Bookish.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is #TopTenTuesday over at the Broke and the Bookish and today’s topic “Top Ten Books I’m Not Sure I Want To Read (books you may have bought but aren’t sure if you are into it anymore, books you wanted to read but heard mixed things about, hyped books you aren’t sure about — basically any book that has you going, “TO READ OR NOT TO READ?”)” So I have a bit of a confession to make. You already know I’m an admitted bookaholic, but it’s time that I own up to another addiction…..the one click button on Amazon. If it’s on sale for $0.99 or 🙄 free, I get it. Right now on my Kindle I have over 100 books I haven’t read and to be completely transparent, some of them I don’t even remember what they are about 😯 So my list for today are based off books that have been recommended and I already own or are popular right now.

Top Ten Books I’m Not Sure I Want to Read

Obsidian
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

12578077When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve heard great things about this series, but there are already four books in this series and I haven’t started it yet. Not sure if I have the time or money to start it, and if it’s as good as I’ve heard, I won’t want to sit them down and I’ll want to read the whole series….maybe it’s time to get a library card in my new town 😕

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

10964The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon–when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach–an “outlander”–in a Scotland torn by war and raiding Highland clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigues and dangers that may threaten her life…and shatter her heart. For here she meets James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, and becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire…and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

I’m a completely sucker for historical romance and this series is one of the best, or so I’ve heard. Like the Lux series though, I’m not sure I have the time or money to start it. Blasphemy, I know, but it’s truth…

The Selection by Kiera Cass

10507293For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

I love a good young adult dystopian, but even after all the hype with the release of the last book in the series, I’m just not sure I want to read it. I mean really, the synopsis reads like a bad reality TV show.

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

13496Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

I really wanted to read this series, and I even bought the boxed set for my Kindle, yet it’s been sitting there for over a year now. I just can’t seem to get in the mood to read it, which if you follow my reviews you know as well as I do that this is a series I would probably love. I’ve seen bits of the show now though, and I’m afraid it will be ruined if I read them 🙁

The Giver by Lois Lowry

3636Jonas’ world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

With the movie coming out this month, I wanted to read it. But to be completely honest, I was forced to read a small section in high school and it traumatized me. Now every time I pick up the book, I think “Awe man, I don’t want to take a test over this!” Silly I know, I mean I’m nearly thirty but I can’t shake the test anxiety I get every time I sit down and try to read this book.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

6186357“If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human.”

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers–boys whose memories are also gone.

Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out–and no one’s ever made it through alive.

Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.

Again, another book turning movie later this year. I love young adult dystopians…have I said that already 😀 ? Because really I do love them, but I feel like Hollywood is trying to cash out on this craze that’s hit the book world and quite frankly I’m over it. I’m sure I’ll read this book eventually, but right now, it ain’t happening.

Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich

8205669Seven Stones of Power
No one knows when they were created or by whom, each said to represent one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

For centuries, treasure hunters have been eager to possess the Stones, undeterred by their corrupting nature. The list is long – Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, to name a few. Now the Stones have found their way to Salem, Massachusetts, and so has Gerwulf Grimoire, adding himself to this rogues’ gallery of power seekers. He’s an uncommonly dangerous man with a hunger for the forbidden and a set of abilities that are way beyond ordinary. Abilities that he feels entitle him to possess anything he might desire.

That would include Elizabeth Tucker, the woman he needs to find the Stones. She’s freshly transplanted from New York City to Boston’s North Shore. With a new job as pastry chef at Dazzle’s Bakery and an old house inherited from her Aunt Ophelia, her life is pretty much on track…until it’s suddenly derailed by a guy named Diesel, a rude monkey, and a ninja cat.

Lizzy can handle the monkey and the cat. She’s not sure about Diesel. He’s offering up his own set of unusual talents and promising to protect her from Grimoire, the kind of protection that Lizzy suspects might involve guarding her body day and night

The Seven Deadly Sins are pride, greed, lust, envy, wrath, sloth, and gluttony. That pretty much covers everything that is wicked. Diesel thinks it also pretty much covers everything that’s fun. And Lizzy thinks Diesel and the Seven Deadly Sins cover everything her mother warned her about.

This series is a spin-off, well sorta spin-off, of the Stephanie Plum series and takes the mysterious character Diesel and puts him in the leading-male role. For some reason, I bought this book when it was released, really excited to read it because I liked the Diesel character. Then I read the synopsis and thought, maybe not.

P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

366522A novel about holding on, letting go, and learning to love again.

Holly couldn’t live without her husband Gerry, until the day she had to. They were the kind of young couple who could finish each other’s sentences. When Gerry succumbs to a terminal illness and dies, 30-year-old Holly is set adrift, unable to pick up the pieces. But with the help of a series of letters her husband left her before he died and a little nudging from an eccentric assortment of family and friends, she learns to laugh, overcome her fears, and discover a world she never knew existed.

The kind of enchanting novel with cross-generational appeal that comes along once in a great while, PS, I Love You is a captivating love letter to the world!

I love this movie! It is one of my favorite chick-flicks and I watch it every chance I get….usually with a box of tissues and lots of chocolate. But I’m not sure I want to read the book. What if, and I mean this is a big if, I like the movie better than the book :O ?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

13528340Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages–not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers–beautiful, haunted Akiva–fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

So this series is getting rave reviews and some of my friends have recommended it to me. But I’m still new to angel mythology books and to be honest they’re just not my favorite, however they are growing on me 🙂

Icons by Margaret Stohl

11861715Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol’s family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn’t know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside — safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can’t avoid.

She’s different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador’s privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn’t a coincidence. It’s a conspiracy.

Within the Icon’s reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions — which they’ve always thought to be their greatest weaknesses — may actually be their greatest strengths.

Bestselling author Margaret Stohl delivers the first book in a heart-pounding series set in a haunting new world where four teens must piece together the mysteries of their pasts — in order to save the future.

I loved Beautiful Creatures and the synopsis of this book does sound intriguing, but I’m on the fence. It’s another young adult dystopian, which I love, but do I want to read this one? I’m just not sure.

What books do you own that you’re not sure you want to read? Or are there books that have been recommended to you that you’re not sure about? What about the ones that are popular now any you’re not sure of?

There were many more books I could’ve added to this list, but these are at the top. Maybe I’ll get around to reading them one day, maybe not. One thing is for sure though I will always find something to read 😀

  1. Trust me, the movie PS I LOVE YOU is not better than the book 🙂 I think if you like the movie you will like the book just as much (plus I’m a big fan of Ahern’s other books, too). As for DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE it’s so completely unlike anything else out there. I’m not a huge fan of the angel stuff that’s been coming out either but DAUGHTER blew me away.

    • I’m sure I’ll eventually read it because it is similar to other books I read, I’m just not sure about Angel mythology books, even when they fall into urban fantasy. 😕

  2. I love Outlander. I don’t know about others but for me, it’s all about the first book. I’ve read up to the fourth book and… meh. The author could have ended it with the first book and I would have been 100% happy. Now it just seems drug out. The first book is where the money is.

    • See I’ve heard that a lot! I think I’m going to break down and get it, especially since the TV show is getting ready to come on. I want to read it before I watch it 😉

  3. “The Selection”, “The Maze Runner”, and “Daughter of Smoke & Bone”, were all good trilogies to a point and then, in my opinion, they just failed. Mostly it’s because of the endings, but with “Daughter of Smoke & Bone” it was the whole third book that annoyed me. But you can skip all the books, I won’t tell anyone, except for “A Song of Fire and Ice”. I’m sorry, but you HAVE to read at least a part of it. How I set about to reading that series was to pick my favourite characters and follow their chapters, skip the rest (so that I can still be amazed with the TV show) and voila. ^_^

    • I know I need to read it! My husband who doesn’t read much has read all of them and is on me to do the same. I like your suggestion though about reading only your favorite characters. I may have to try that 😉

  4. There’s quite a few on there I’ve hesitated to read as well, especially Daughter of Smoke and Bone (which was actually on my TBR list at the beginning of the year but got knocked off, I forget why) and The Maze Runner.

I have read Game of Thrones and can definitely recommend it – it’s a great series. Still, lots of time to catch up before the last book comes out!

I’ve actually just started reading a French book series (it has been translated into English) that inspired A Song of Ice and Fire – The Accursed Kings. Is really good so far, finished the first book this morning.
