Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

With a New Year comes new books, but every year I seem to miss some from the year before. In other words, I run out of time and then NEED to play catch up so I can read this year’s books. Well, today’s TTT topic fits this perfectly: “Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To.” There were SO MANY books I didn’t get to that I wanted to read, it was hard to pick just ten! But here they are in no particular order. Covers link to Goodreads 😀

Top Ten 2014 Releases I Still NEED to Read

Book Cover for "Cruel Beauty" by Rosamund Hodge
Book Cover for "The Winner's Curse" by Marie Rutkoski
Book Cover for "Four: A Divergent Story Collection" by Veronica Roth
Book Cover for "Dangerous Creatures" by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Cruel Beauty by Rosalind Hodge – What’s not to love about a retelling of Beauty and the Beast?! I put this book off on purpose last year because I hadn’t found my absolute adoration of fairytale retellings. Blasphemy I know, but it’s true. Now it’s all I want to read! Lucky for me I already own this on my Kindle and will be reading it ASAP!

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski – A young adult, dystopian, romance….enough said! How did I miss this book last year? It wasn’t even on my radar until around Christmas with the hype surrounding book two, but I really need to read this and it’s on sale right now on Book Outlet…must resist urge to buy.

Four: A Divergent Story Collection by Veronica Roth – I’ve deliberately put off reading this one. I LOVED Divergent and the ending of the series destroyed me! I cried like my BFF had just died (no pun intended 😉 ) and still I can’t talk about the ending without tearing up…am I a wimp or what?! So yes, I haven’t read this, I do own it because I pre-ordered it prior to reading Allegiant and now I just need to work up the nerve to read it!

Dangerous Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl – The Beautiful Creatures series holds a special place in my heart as I binge read it the summer of 2013 which coincidentally brought me out of my Dark Ages (the time period of my life where there was little to no reading). I adored the series and I LOVED Link and Ridley. For some reason I was under the delusion this was a short story, but I’m so thankful it isn’t. I have every intention of finding and reading this book ASAP!

Book Cover for "Snow Like Ashes" by Sara Raasch
Book Cover for "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown
Book Cover for "A Thousand Pieces of You" by Claudia Gray

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch – This one is purely about the cover!!! Well not really, there’s been some excellent reviews around the blogosphere and it’s a dystopian with hints of fantasy, set kinda in an old-world setting. Got this one from the library this week and will be reading it very soon 😀

Red Rising by Pierce Brown – HOW DID I MISS THIS BOOK?!?!?! “The Earth is dying. Darrow is a Red, a miner in the interior of Mars. His mission is to extract enough precious elements to one day tame the surface of the planet and allow humans to live on it. The Reds are humanity’s last hope.” Really?! A dystopian, set on Mars. Gimme, gimme!!!

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Grey – I can honestly say I know nothing about this book other than it has a beautiful cover! Since I’m a cover snob, it only makes sense that I want, no NEED, to read this book 😉

Book Cover for "The Young World" by Chris Weitz
Book Cover for "Timebound" by Rysa Walker
Book Cover for "Talon" by Julie Kagawa

The Young World by Chris Weitz – Last week a blogger whom I take book advice from featured this book as her Waiting on Wednesday post. And dang her if she didn’t convince me I need to read this book too!!

Timebound by Rysa Walker – I hate to admit this, but I received this book for review via Amazon’s Kindle First program back in Dec. 2013 prior to its release. Well, I still haven’t read it. Some how I just forgot about it. I’ll be fixing that this week thanks to Dusting Off the Shelves 😉

Talon by Julie Kagawa – Another young adult fantasy that somehow I missed! And listen to the beginning of this synopsis “Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.” Ummm….reading this ASAP!!! I even already own it 😀

What books from 2014 did you miss?

I’m so looking forward to reading all of these!! I don’t even know where I want to start. Dragons maybe….or no Beauty and the Beast….no Mars….Argh!!! While I try to make up my own mind, what books are on your list? Any I need to know about and add to my never-ending, entirely too big for one person TBR pile?
