Top Ten Tuesday #55 – Books to Movies

Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

I’m a sucker for a good movie, but I tend to shy away from movies that were once books. Hollywood just messes them up too much (Twilight for example!). This week’s topic is “Top Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I’m Looking Forward To or Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I Still Need To Watch” which was a little hard for me considering I shy away from them. But it was still easy to come up with ten. These are in no particular and link to either their Goodreads page or movie page on Amazon (affiliate).

My Top Ten Book to Movie Adaptations on My Watch List

1. Mockingjay Part 2

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for this movie!! I LOVE the trilogy and so far the movies are the best book-to-movie adaptations I’ve seen. I cannot wait for this one. Next week people!!!!!

2. Insurgent

I’ll be honest I was really disappointed in the first movie. It was good, but not near as good as the book. I haven’t worked up the energy to watch this one yet. I think I need a reread of the book first. Has anyone watched it yet?

3. Goosebumps

I’m a huge RL Stine fan and even though this movie is geared towards the middle-grade crowd I’m dying to see it. I grew up on RL Stine, he was a staple of my childhood reading. How could I not go see this movie?!

4. Pride and Prejudice

I adore the 2005 movie with Kiera Knightley. It is one of my favorite go-to movies on rainy days and nights when my husband is working. BUT I’ve never seen this version and I’ve heard it is much truer to the book and a must read. I love Colin Firth so it’s on my watch list. Have you seen this movie?

5. Big Stone Gap

I recently got this book from the library and really enjoyed it. Plus Big Stone Gap is only about 30-45 minutes north of us. So I HAVE to see the movie if for no reason other than to see if I recognize the locations in the film (it was filmed on site). Plus some of my favorite actors are in this…LOVE Ashley Judd 😀

6. Jack Reacher

I love this series by Lee Child! I read the first book for free on my kindle and have slowly been working my way through the series. It’s definitely exciting and nothing like my usual read. Maybe that’s why I like it? I’m really curious to see how Tom Cruise will pull off the title character. He’s not what I had pictured that’s for sure!

7. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Yes people this is really happening!!!! I’m a huge Pride and Prejudice fan and when I first came across the spoof I had to read it. It’s hilarious and a bit terrifying. The fact that it is now being made into a movie makes me giddy 😀 I have every intention of dragging my poor husband to the theater to see this one or maybe my sweet mama.

8. The Help

I have yet to see this movie OR read the book. I picked up a copy a while back on sale. I’ve heard great things about both and seeing as how I like historical fiction, I need to get on it!

9. Me Before You

I haven’t read this one yet either, but I own it and plan too. It’s right up my alley and I’ve heard great things about it. Now it’s being made into a movie and the author had a hand in the screenplay. It’s supposed to be out late next year.

10. The Maze Runner

Another one I haven’t read yet so I’ve put off watching the movies. I love dystopians so I really have no excuse for NOT reading this one yet other than I’m slacking 😉 I’ve heard great things and the trailer for this movie looks amazing. Can’t wait to read and watch it!

Your Turn!

What book-to-movie adaptations are you looking forward to? I had a lot more than 10 on my list so I know there’s more out there…The Martian for one 😉 Comment below so I can add it to my watch-list!

  1. Pride and Prejudice made it on to my list, too! The Colin Firth version is pretty great, but it’s hard to beat the 2005 version for me. I just found out about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the other day, and I am so excited for it! Zombies terrify the crap out of me, but I am so in anyway!

  2. Pride and Prejudice is good in most any version, but let’s face it — a movie is more like a novella than a novel, because it simply can’t begin to fit everything from a novel. Therefore longer versions, like the A&E P&P, can be more true to the book than any standalone movie.

As for P&P&Zombies … personally, I refuse to watch anything like that. Sacrilege!
