Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Happy Tuesday y’all! The Broke and the Bookish are on break from TTT still (they return next week with new topics) so I thought I’d take this week and do a topic I missed during my hiatus this past Spring. The topic I chose is “Top Ten things that will make you instantly read a book.” Two weeks ago I did the sister topic of things that will make me not read a book so I thought it’d be fun to list the things that are an instant buy/read for me.

Ten things that will make me instantly read a book

My DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) authors: I have a short list of about 15 authors that whenever they have a new book, I drop what I’m reading to read theirs.

Best friend romance: I love this trope! I may not read a lot of romance, but if it is mentioned in the blurb that two best friends have feelings for one another or one feels more than they should I’m reading and rooting for them.

Second chance romance: Another trope I love. I love second chances, when two people love each other so much they are willing to do anything to fix the relationship. It’s sweet and an instant read for me.

YA set in space: There is just not enough good scifi in YA. I love space opera (recent love I’ve found out) and there just isn’t enough in YA. I need more and if aliens and being on a ship in space are mentioned, I’m reading it.

YA mythology: I love Greek and Roman mythology (specifically) but I’ve found I enjoy any book steeped in mythology. I like seeing how different authors interpret the myths and weave them into their own story. It’s a favorite genre of mine.

Post-apocalyptic Dystopia: I love dystopia, but I particularly love the post-apocalyptic kind. Like Mike Mullin’s Ashfall, it’s addicting and I can’t get enough of the survival instinct that kicks in.

High fantasy with multiple creatures: I love high fantasy in general, but I particularly love it when authors create a high fantasy world that is so detailed you could believe it exists. There are witches and wizards, kings and queens, dragons, fae, and other creatures the author imagines. I’m in!

Any mention of robots in the blurb: A recent love of mine, I’m fascinated with this element in books. Cinder kicked it off and my most recent read Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray just solidifies this on my list.

Pretty cover: Yes I’m a cover snob. I can’t help it though. Sometimes pretty covers just call to me….

Comes Highly Recommended: I have a few close friends and a few authors that I trust their choices in books. If they tell me I’ll like it, they are usually correct (like 99.9% of the time).
