Does anyone else feel like they have aged 10 years during the first half of 2020? Anyone? Just me….ok 😅 Y’all to say 2020 is stressful is an understatement. This year has tried my family like no other year has (and that’s saying a lot because we survived residency with a toddler and one income!). Despite it all though, it has forced us to spend time together, and I wouldn’t trade that time for anything in the world, especially as our son gets older. Reading wise, it was a great quarter! So far I’m on track to beat my Goodreads challenge this year, and I’ll need to adjust a few of the challenges below. As of writing this post, I’ve listened to/read 30 books (and hope to add a few more before the official month’s end). Read on to see how those books fit my challenges.
The 2020 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Hot Listens. For this challenge, you simply have to listen to audiobooks. You can sign up anytime between now and December 31, 2020. My original goal for this year was Look Ma No Hands (50+ audiobooks), but I didn’t take into account that I did most of my listening while my son was at school. Now that he is homeschooling, I don’t listen nearly enough, so I’m backing down a few levels. My new goal for 2020 is Binge Listener (20-30 audiobooks). This feels much more achievable to me at this time in my life. During this quarter, I managed to listen to 4 audiobooks. Here are the books I listened to during the 2nd quarter:
- Influence by David R. Bernstein
- The Call of the Rift: Flight by Jae Waller
- The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare
- The Oddmire: Changeling by William Ritter
The 2020 Book To Movie Challenge is hosted by Michelle @ Gather Together and Read. This challenge challenges the reader to read books that will become movies during the current year. Michelle has already done the hard work for you by compiling a list of 2020 movies with their release dates. You can sign up here anytime between now and December 31, 2020. My goal for this challenge was First One to the Theater (4+ books). I’m also going to participate in the additional levels Not Ready to Let Go (1+ books from 2019) and The Movie Was Better (What?!) (seeing the movie that goes with the book). While I’m reading more, I’m not really reading anything that is coming to theater like I had hoped. During this quarter, I read 0 books for this challenge 🤦🏼♀️ Bringing my total for the challenge to 1 book At this time, I think I’ll be dropping out of the challenge….there’s always next year 😉
The 2020 Finishing the Series Reading Challenge is hosted by Celebrity Readers. The point of this challenge is to finish those series you’ve already started or if the series isn’t completely published yet to catch up to the most current book. You can sign up here anytime between now and December 1, 2020. My goal for this challenge is A-List Series Finisher (9+ series completed). During this quarter, I read 6 books and finished 0 series. I need to work on series I’ve already started…clearly 🤦♀️ Here are the books I read during the 2nd quarter:
- Crypts and Crimes by Scarlett Dawn
- Smoke Gate by Kay L. Moody
- Vine Gate by Kay L. Moody
- The Fiery Crown by Jeffe Kennedy
- Rage and Ruin by Jennifer L Armentrout
- Ember Gate by Kay L. Moody
Here are the series I’ve completed so far this year:
The Netgalley and Edelweiss Reading Challenge 2020 is hosted by Reading Between the Pages Basically this challenge is for reviewers, and for me, those that need to get above 80%. You can sign up for this challenge until December 31, 2020. My goal for this challenge is Gold (50 books). I’m hoping to clean of that Netgalley shelf for good this year 🤞During this quarter, I read 5 eARCs from Netgalley. Here are the books I read during the 2nd quarter:
- The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren
- Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge by Debbie Mason
- The Fiery Crown by Jeffe Kennedy
- Rage and Ruin by Jennifer L Armentrout
- The Call of the Rift: Flight by Jae Waller
The 2020 New Release Challenge is hosted by Linda & Brandee @(un)Conventional Bookworms. The rules of this challenge are simple: read any book that was released after January 1st of the current year that is at least 100 pages and review it. You can sign up any time between now and September 1, 2020. My goal for this challenge is New Release Pro (31-60 books), and I’m one book away from meeting it! During this quarter, I read 15 new releases. Here are the books I read during the 2nd quarter:
- Crypts and Crimes by Scarlett Dawn
- From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout
- Fae’s Deception by M. Lynn, Melissa A. Craven
- The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren

The 2020 Swords & Stars Reading Challenge is hosted by Ms. Nose in a Book. This is a sci-fi and fantasy reading challenge made up of twenty prompts. You can sign up here until December 31, 2020. My goal for this challenge is to read at least half of the prompts (so 10 books), and I have read 12 of the prompts so far this year! During this quarter, I read 5 books. Here are the books I read during the 2nd quarter:
- Fae’s Deception by M. Lynn, Melissa A. Craven
- Legacy by Jesikah Sundin
- LIFEL1K3 by Jay Kristoff
