Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!
Happy Saturday y’all! Last month I started something new, something that is much needed, and something that I wanted to share with you all. We’ve all been there – Looking at our TBR, wondering what to read, and being completely overwhelmed at the sheer amount of books we have listed. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 382 books on it, my physical shelf and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them 😅). That being said, I needed to do something, anything really, so I know what I want to read next. That’s where this meme comes in.
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more a month. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.
The Books
What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
So I honestly don’t remember why this book got added to the TBR oh so many years ago. What I do know is it is one that I want to read. I don’t read a lot of women’s fiction/contemporary. But a few do catch my eye. This is one of them. So it stays.
Looking at the blurb for this one reminds me of why it was added to the TBR originally. I’ve always enjoyed a good fantasy, and I love even more a good urban fantasy. This one stays.
I used to own this book. I picked up a copy at a used book store, knowing I wanted to read it because I loved Beautiful Creatures. I traded it in last year because I thought “I’m never going to read this.” Then I read the blurb and I’m kicking myself. It sounds SO good!! It stays.
Yesterday by C.K. Kelly Martin
I’m pretty sure this book was in a boxed set I received for review back when I was a baby blogger. I read a couple of the books in the box set and reviewed those, adding the rest to my TBR. I never made it back to this one, and to be completely honest, it doesn’t sound like my cup of tea. It goes.
All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
I remember adding this one to my TBR when I was on a serious dystopian kick. But what really intrigued me was the hint of time travel. I never got my hands on a copy, and it no longer interests me. One day maybe, but not today. It goes.
This book made its way on to my TBR because it was recommended by a friend of mine. The same friend that recommended Laura Thalassa and has never steered me wrong. I purchased this one for my Kindle so one day I will make time to read it. It stays.
Same friend that recommended the last book recommended this one. I had forgotten all about it until I read the blurb. Now I must read it. It’s moving to the top of the pile and staying.
Jane Austen Girl by Inglath Cooper
This book has had a name change since I added it to my TBR all those years ago. I originally added it because I love Jane Austen. Since adding it, I read the author’s novella series Nashville which I loved. This happens to be the third book in the series though, so for now it goes at least until I read the other books in the series 😉
The Keatyn Chronicles by Jillian Dodd
I’ve never been much of a contemporary reader. I honestly don’t even remember adding this one to my TBR, but I did at some point. At some point I even purchased this box set. But y’all this is one of those genres I have to be in the mood for. So for now, it goes.
Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis
For a long time (probably thanks to New Moon), I was obsessed with shifters, specifically wolves. I purchased this one for my kindle back when my kindle was still brand new, a 2nd gen OG. But I never got around to reading it. However my obsession with shifters is still present and strong so it stays.
