Amanda’s Weekly Update

My parents’ visit was so nice! We ate so good, we relaxed, we took night time walks, we spent time with my brother and his family…it was just a nice time. My mom and I accidentally stayed up till like 2 AM catching up. It’s always good to spend time with them – and the visits aren’t long enough, ever.

Reading-wise, I did pretty well! I finished a couple of Christmas books last week, one more this week and an audio book, too! I think that’s only because I didn’t lift while my parents were here, so I had more time to do stuff. Thank you to everyone who’s participated in our Christmas in July feature and have followed us on Insta! I’m so excited about how our Insta kind of exploded! Lillian is killing that game! I’m so proud of this feature, and we’ve had a lot of fun getting to know you all as well as escaping into the nether-Christmas.

I wrote the above last night, but that was before I had actually gone book shopping. I have since come to the disappointing conclusion that I have lost all ability to exist in public. 😑😂 I showed up at BAM today with The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo in mind to buy (I *need* this series on my bookshelf). Outside the store are usually a couple of rolling shelves of discounted books that are either damaged or are older versions that are being updated. I perused the shelves and found Treasure Island for $3 (SCORE! high-fives self). As I reached for the handle to the glass door to go inside, I noticed something off about my shirt in the reflection….it’s *clearly* inside-out. Seeing the tag hanging off the side, I panicked, ran back to my car and realized I’d just accidentally shop-lifted this book. This was right about the second I decided to just find a secluded spot in the parking lot to fix my shirt, and come right back. So, like the panicking airhead I am, I speed across the parking lot to the other side of a movie theater, quickly strip off my shirt, flip it right-side-out and try to put it back on as quickly as I can. At this point I’m laughing at myself, but also a little shaky and sweaty, so it took me longer than is ideal to get the thing back on. Once I was decent, I left my dressing room/corner of the parking lot and go right back to BAM, don my mask, strode inside with my correct-facing shirt and bargain book, grabbed a basket and shop like nothing weird happened and I did not just perform a mini strip tease in my car to an audience of no one. When I went to leave the store, seven books poorer, I was so distracted by the books I got and my conversation with the cashier (omg a real person, who reads, what do I doooooo), that I nearly left with my basket on my arm and had to go back inside to put it back in the stack. One of these days I’ll get used to peopleing again. Until that day, I fully expect self-inflicted shenanigans.

Hope you all have had a fabulous weekend!

  1. OOh nice new reads! I enjoyed the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the new covers were just gorgeous! Ashley’s new book looks like fun. I’m kind of in the limbo place on it right now. Basically waiting for reviews to help me figure out if I’d like it or not! Lol.

Hope you both enjoy the new reads!
