Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!
Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back and continuing my journey down the TBR hole this month. I think we’ve all been there at one point or another – Looking at our TBR, wondering what to read, and being completely overwhelmed at the sheer amount of books we have listed. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 339 books on it, my physical shelf and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them 😅). Want to join me?
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the blurbs of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more a month. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
I have a thing for fantasy series that the characters are royals. I don’t know why, but I do. I have read more than I can count and I love them all. My hubby surprised me with the entire series in hardback a few years ago. I’m embarrassed to say that I still haven’t had a chance to read them. So for now this one stays: one because it was a gift and two because the blurb intrigues me.
Verdict: STAYS
The Disappearing Act by Laura Thalassa
This would be the third book in Thalassa’s Vanishing Girl series which I devoured several years ago. It’s on hiatus and may never come out, so sadly it goes. But I will continue to hold out hope that it will come one day….
Verdict: GOES
The Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole: Books 3.5 & 4
I love this series! I can’t believe that I haven’t read these yet!! They are both staying on my TBR because I own them and I know they will get read….soonish. What I’d really like to do at this point is go back and reread the series from beginning to end. That just might happen….again soonish.
Verdict: STAYS
Turbo Twenty-Three by Janet Evanovich
I started reading the Stephanie Plum novels when I was in high school. At that time I think the first 8 were out with nine on the way. I remember devouring the series in a little less than a month. Since then, I’ve reread them more times than I can count, own them all on my kindle, and sometime in the last few years fell behind. Someone told me the series ended with 27 and I was so sad, but then I saw while writing this post that 28 is coming in November so I’m happy again and plan to attempt to catch up before the new one releases this fall.
Verdict: STAYS
At some point in time, I’ve read all the short stories in this collection so I’m not sure how it ended up on my TBR. The novella contains scenes from the Saven series, which I really enjoyed, from the main love interest’s POV. I like having those because I wasn’t sold on him as the love interest at first. These helped 😉

I honestly don’t remember adding this one to my TBR. That said, I know exactly why it ended up there: ZOMBIES. I went through a phase about four, maybe five, years ago where all I wanted to read was post-apocalyptic zombie fiction. This one is set in New Orleans AND in Kindle Unlimited so because I’m falling in love with Zombie fiction again (Thank you Lenore 😉) it stays.
Verdict: STAYS
As Old As Time by Liz Braswell
Did you know that during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales last year that the entire Twisted Tale series was on sale? Yeah….I may have completed my set. This one is on my TBR because I’ve read several of the series from this author already AND it’s Beauty and the Beast. Do I really need more reasons 😉
Verdict: STAYS
Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
This one sounds amazing! I don’t know how or why it ended up on my TBR, but I can say that the blurb sounds amazing. It also sounds right up my alley. A kingdom on the verge of collapse, an exiled princess, magic…yes to all these. However, I’m not intrigued enough to keep it at this time. Though I will say it won’t take much for me to add it back 😉 Y’all could easily convince me of that.
Verdict: GOES
Magic of the Gargoyles by Rebecca Chastain
I received this one from the author a few years ago and have attempted to read it a couple of times. I think it was a it’s-me-not-you kind of situation. That being said, I think I will keep it on the TBR just a bit longer. I do love magic and gargoyles 😉
Verdict: STAYS
I read and loved The 5th Wave several years back. I enjoyed it so much that I actually bought the series in a box set. However I never got back around to reading them 🤦🏼♀️ I have no idea why. I loved the dystopian setting, the alien invasion, all of it. That said, I know The Infinite Sea is on my TBR. Since this is the third book and I haven’t read book two yet, I’m going to remove it for now with the intent of it coming back eventually.
Verdict: GOES
This book sounds amazing. I don’t remember adding it to my TBR, but I know why it was there. Aliens, other realms, searching for a long lost love….all the above. The blurb is fantastic. However I can’t find this book anywhere. It’s no longer for sale and the author’s website is also gone 🙁 So I guess it is one that goes….
Verdict: GOES
Ariel Rising by AJ & CS Sparber
This book is a fallen angel story but with a big twist. The angel is an alien? At least that’s what I’ve gathered from the blurb and reviews. Not sure this is my thing or what made me add it in the first place….
Verdict: GOES
I really enjoyed Ruined, the first book of this series. I read it as an arc about a year and a half before this one came out. So like with all books I read an arc of, I’d forgotten a lot of what had happened and only remembered the feeling it left me with. I wanted to go back and reread book one before I dived into this one. So there it sits lonely on my TBR pile. One of these days…..
Verdict: STAYS
I remember seeing this book everywhere before it came out and thinking I really wanted to read it. Now, reading the blurb, I’m not so sure. It honestly doesn’t sound like one I’d enjoy. I believe I got caught up in the hype and beautiful cover.

What a great way to clean out the TBR. Even if you don’t purge many, it reminds you what you have on the list. Great job.
Wendy Williams recently posted…Stacking the Shelves!
Thanks! When I first saw the concept, I thought it was genius. So many books get added to my goodreads TBR and I never look at them again 🙈😂
