Down the TBR Hole Meme

Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!

Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back and continuing my journey down the TBR hole this month. I’ve been MIA since September so I thought this would be a good way to jump back in. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 337 books on it, my physical shelf and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them 😅). Want to join me?

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the blurbs of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. This may change to weekly at the start of the new year….we shall see 😉 And I’m probably going to do 10 or more a month. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

I remember thinking when this book came out that it sounded just like my kind of read. Why it is still sitting on my TBR shelf I haven’t a clue, but it is and that’s a shame….I may need to remedy that this month.

Verdict: STAYS

Like a River Glorious by Rae Carson

The blurb for this one sounds amazing! A western, set during the gold rush but also fantasy. Yes please….however this is book two and I neither have read or have in possession book one. So for now it goes, only to be replaced by book one 😀

Verdict: GOES

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter

I totally understand why I added this one after rereading the blurb. I love fairytale retellings, and I especially love Russian folklore/fairytales. So again this was an easy add. However, after all this time I’m not sure this one I’ll keep on my list. Reading some of the reviews from other bloggers I trust, I’m not sure this one is as for me as I originally thought. For now, it goes, but y’all it would not take much to convince me to keep it 😉

Verdict: GOES

From This Moment by Elizabeth Camden

I’m on the fence about this one. I have a soft spot for historical fiction, and there are times that it is what I’m in the mood to read…but those times are few and far between. I don’t think I’ll hang on to this one…though I may add it to my KU wishlist on Amazon so I remember it later…maybe 😀

Verdict: GOES

The Crown’s Fate by Evelyn Skye

I absolutely loved the first installment of this duology! I read an arc of it, and then as a result (as many of you I’m sure can attest to), I forgot to watch for book two. Then when I realized it was out I put it aside to reread book one because it had been so long….now it is still sitting on my shelf and book one hasn’t been reread. I plan to keep this one though. The first was too good not too 😉

Verdict: STAYS

Guardians of Summerfeld Books 2-4 by Melissa Delport

I absolutely loved book one of this series which I received as an arc from the author. I devoured it, but then wasn’t able to finish reading the series at the time. I have every intention of making time for it at some point. However I will stick with what I’ve been doing and leave book 2 on my TBR, removing 3 & 4 until 2 is read. (Also if you enjoy PNR I highly recommend it!).

Verdict: STAYS, GOES, GOES

Geek Girl by Holly Smale

I must admit that every so often a cute YA contemporary catches my eye. This is one of those times. But to be completely and bluntly honest with you, it is not my kind of read, no matter how cute it may sound or look as in this case.

Verdict: GOES

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

After reading Kasey West for the first time this summer, I’ve been more intrigued than ever to dive into Morgan Matson. Not sure how similar their writing styles are, but I have a feeling they are similar and it gets recommended to me a lot. I have a copy of this one sitting on my shelves here at home so I think I’ll hang on to it for a while.

Verdict: STAYS

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

I am a sucker for royalty based romances. I honestly don’t know why either, but I am. It doesn’t matter if it is fantasy, historical or contemporary, if it features a prince or princess I’m going to read it….I blame Disney 😆 But I digress, this book caught my eye when it made its rounds on Twitter back when it was first released. Many of the bloggers I follow have read and recommend it so I snagged a copy on sale a few years ago….which is still sitting in my TBR where it will remain for the foreseeable future.

Verdict: STAYS

Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay

I am a sucker for all things Beauty and the Beast….again I blame Disney. So it is no surprise that this one wound up on my TBR. What is a surprise to me is that I completely forgot about it! I do not have a copy of this one, but I plan to rectify that soon. This one is a retelling, but also dystopian which is one of my go-to genres. Have any of you read it? Thoughts? Because I’m all kinds of excited to get my hands on a copy now.

Verdict: STAYS

The Gauntlet by Megan Shepherd

I love this series! How I haven’t read the last book yet is beyond me. I even own this series in multiple formats 😆 I plan to make this one a priority as soon as I finish up the Aurora Cycle.

Verdict: STAYS
