Down the TBR Hole #15

Down the TBR Hole Meme

Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!

Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole this month. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 310 books on it, my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them 😅). Want to join me?

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the blurbs of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

Gilded Cage by Vic James

The blurb for this one plus the cover are amazing. I honestly don’t remember adding this one to my TBR. I do not have a copy in my possession at the moment….but I’m going to have to change that. For now, I will tentatively keep it.

Verdict: STAYS

Shimmer and Burn by Mary Taranta

I remember this one! The blurb and the beautiful cover are what attracted me to this novel to begin with. I love a good fantasy novel, and this one had the promise of it. I actually got a copy through Book Outlet many years ago. I tried reading it then, but it did not hold my attention. I no longer have the book so for now I’ll pass.

Verdict: GOES

Book cover for "Shimmer and Burn" by Mary Tantera
Book Cover for "Blood Rose Rebellion" by Rosalyn Eves

Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves

Another one I remember 🙌 This one I featured on a WoW post. A girl with powers, born as an outcast and becomes the unwitting leader of a rebellion, yes please 😀 I’m a sucker for fantasy dystopians.

Verdict: STAYS

Fireblood by Elly Blake

I loved the first book of this series. I devoured it, and I cannot believe that nearly 7 years later and I still haven’t continued reading the series. I’m making a plan now to reread Frostblood so I can finish this one. If you enjoy fantasy, highly recommend!

Verdict: STAYS

Book Cover for "Fireblood" by Elly Blake
Book Cover for "The Dragon's Curse" by Bethany Wiggins

The Dragon’s Curse by Bethany Wiggins

I read the first book back when it came out in 2017, and if I remember correctly, I liked the last half of it more than the first half. It reminded me a lot of Dragonheart which I loved growing up. I tentatively added the sequel to my TBR, but I completely forgot about it 🤦‍♀️

Verdict: GOES

Fallen by Lauren Kate

I do not remember this one at all. I can say with 100% certainty that I most likely heard about the movie, read the blurb, and wanted to read before I saw the movie. I can also say that I never did either. 😂

Verdict: GOES

Canadian West Series Collection by Janette Oke

I love Janette Oke. My grandmother has read all of her works and owns most of them. As a teen, I borrowed and read almost all of them as well. I think that is where my love of historical fiction/romance comes from 😉 I have read these in the past (like in high school!!) so I’ll remove them, but I would like to reread them at some point.

Verdict: GOES

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao

I own this one and am ashamed to say that I still haven’t read it. It sounds amazing and right up my alley too. I love fairy tale retellings, and I especially love learning about other cultures’ versions of fairy tales. This one is likened to Snow White. As I haven’t read it yet, I have no clue, but I’m still excited to read it 😀

Verdict: STAYS

Book Cover for "Forest of a Thousand Lanterns" by Julie C. Dao

Midnight at the Electric by Jodi Lynn Anderson

I didn’t remember this one at all until I read the blurb. It sounds amazing and another one that is right up my alley. How I haven’t snagged a copy of this one yet I’ll never know. I’m off to search the library to see if I can find a copy…..

Verdict: STAYS

The Salt Line by Holly Goddard Jones

Through the whole process of weeding down my TBR, I occasionally find a gem that I’d completely forgotten about. This is one of those gems 😉 I love a good dystopian, especially one with an apocalyptic flair. The blurb for this one is what made it wind up on my TBR, though I don’t remember adding it. I’ll keep it around for now.

Verdict: STAYS

Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

I can honestly say that I have no recollection of this book. Most likely it was added from cover lust 😂 After reading the blurb, I can tell you it isn’t for me.

Verdict: GOES

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

I love Rogerson’s books! I cannot believe that I missed reading her debut novel. Her writing style is unlike anyone’s I’ve ever read. Her stories feel real, even the fantastical bits. I’m hoping to read this one ASAP, moving it to the top of the pile.

Verdict: STAYS

Book Cover for "An Enchantment of Ravens" by Margaret Rogerson

Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi

This one sounds amazing. I love dark fantasies, and I also love that this one blends a culture I’m not as familiar with (learning opportunity 🙌). The reviews are fantastic, and while it isn’t my usual go-to read, I’m going to tentatively keep it because I’m intrigued 😉

Verdict: STAYS

Of Jenny & the Aliens by Ryan Gebhart

This looks like a quirky, fun read on the surface. I’m not sure how it made it to my TBR though. It doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.

Verdict: GOES

Arabella of Mars by David D. Levine

This one came highly recommended to me when I was looking for more sci-fi’s to read. I’m sad to say that I still haven’t read it. Though I plan to keep it around and hopefully get to it soon-ish. I am going to remove the sequel from my TBR for now though in keeping with what I’ve done so far.

Verdict: STAYS
