Down the TBR Hole Meme

Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!

Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole today. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 293 books on it; my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them). Want to join me?

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the blurbs of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

Speakeasy by Alisa Smith

This one sounds interesting – a Bonnie & Clyde-esque adventure about a former gangster who is now working as a code breaker during WWII. I can see why this one is on my TBR, however I have zero desire to read it at this time. I just have too many books calling my name to keep it on the list.

Verdict: GOES

Find You in the Dark by Nathan Ripley

Thrillers are not my go to genre…typically. Occasionally I want to read one. Like now, during the spooky beginnings of fall 😉 While this one sounds really good (like I’d highly recommend it to someone that enjoys a good thrill), the price tag and the fact I can’t get it at my local library means it’s leaving my list.

Verdict: GOES

The Stars Now Unclaimed by Drew Williams

Space opera with humor…that’s how the blurb describes this one. I would prob devour this one. However, yet again, the price tag and the fact it isn’t available at my local library means it is leaving my list. Though….y’all could convince me to add it back 😉

Verdict: GOES

From Unseen Fire by Cass Morgan

I 100% did not remember adding this book to my TBR nor do I remember it at all. That being said I read the blurb and am sold! Roman history melded with elemental magic, why yes please 😀 It’s also currently only $2.99 on kindle so win-win.

Verdict: STAYS

The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill

A retelling of The Little Mermaid. Do I need to say more? I already own this one in hardback and can also get a digital copy from the library. One of these days I will get to it….

Verdict: STAYS

All the Ever Afters by Danielle Teller

Cinderella‘s story told from the evil stepmother’s POV…um, why have I not read this yet?! This sounds amazing and right up my alley. Just snagged the audiobook from my library so I’ll be reading this one soonish.

Verdict: STAYS

Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell

Remember what I said about thrillers? Same applies here. However this one has intrigued me enough to go looking for it. I found a copy at the library….I’m 215th in line so it may be this time next year before I finally get a chance to read it 😆

Verdict: STAYS

Dreamfall by Amy Plum

Another thriller….must have been at the start of spooky season and I was seeing these on other blogs *shrugs* This one sounds really promising and probably got itself added to my pile when I saw it compared to Freddy Krueger and Inception. That said, it isn’t at my local library and that price tag is too steep for me when I have SO many other books to read.

Verdict: GOES

City of Lies by Sam Hawke

This one sounds amazing! A fantasy “whodunit” from what I gather in the blurb. However, like the others that I’ve said bye to today, it isn’t in the library and that price tag is more than I am willing to pay when I have so many other unread books waiting on me.

Verdict: GOES

Escapement by Ciara Knight

This one sounded amazing, however the author has recently pulled the series from publication. With no way to get the book, it’s time to say goodbye to it.

Verdict: GOES
