Down the TBR Hole #24

Down the TBR Hole Meme

Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!

Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole today. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 272 books on it; my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them). Want to join me?

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the blurbs of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson

I don’t know what it is about these types of fantasies (magic, ruin, and rebellion) that call to me, but call to me they do 😂 I remember adding this one to my list and just honestly forgetting about it. It’s currently in Kindle Unlimited so I’m going to try to get to it sooner rather than later.

Verdict: STAYS

What Monstrous Gods by Rosamund Hodge

This book has been on my TBR shelf since it was first announced all the way back in 2018 😂 It hasn’t published yet, but we have a tentative date of March 1, 2024 according to the publisher 🤞 I love this author, so I will wait however long I need to.

Verdict: STAYS

The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh

I am a sucker for vampire stories…pun intended 😂 This quartet is set in New Orleans, and I cannot wait to dive into it. The final book comes out this year, and I’ll be honest, I’ve purposefully put off reading it so I could binge them at one time. I think that time is coming up soon 😀

Verdict: STAYS

The Sin Soldiers by Tracy Auerbach

I love sci-fi and dysopians, and this one wound up on my TBR because of that love. I like the idea of it, and it is in Kindle Unlimited so maybe….But right now I think I will pass.

Verdict: GOES

Book Cover for "The Rightful Queen" by Siobhan Davis

The Rightful Queen by Siobhan Davis

Sooo….this is the final book in a series that came out five years ago. The author delayed the release of this one due to the popularity of her other books and has not updated on whether we will ever get this one. So it goes…

Verdict: GOES

The Darkest Legacy by Alexandra Bracken

I really enjoyed The Darkest Minds series which I binge listened to the summer the movie came out. I actually purchased the audiobook copy of this one when it came out, just never got around to reading it.

Verdict: STAYS

Audiobook Cover for "Emma" by Jane Austen

Emma by Jane Austen

I love all things Austen, and I have attempted to listen to this one already. It’s not my cup of tea. This is an adaptation of the novel (like a play instead of the actual book). Maybe one day, but today isn’t that day.

Verdict: GOES

Rogue Royalty by Rebecca Ethington

Imdalind is one of my all-time favorite series. The academy series is set after the events of the OG, and I really enjoyed book one. I just missed the release of book two…even though I preordered it 🫣

Verdict: STAYS

Book Cover for "Rogue Royalty" by Rebecca Ethington
Book Cover for "Bone Crier's Moon" by Kathryn Purdie

Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie

This book had me at doomed romance and macabre magic 😀 I remember adding it to my TBR and even featuring it on the blog for WoW. I just missed the release date. Now I’m off to find a copy 😉

Verdict: STAYS

A Treason of Thorns by Laura E. Weymouth

I vaguely remember this one, and I feel like I should know it better as I featured it one Wednesday 😅 I think this one may be a case of cover lust where I was so infatuated with the cover that I wanted it asap. Now though, after reading the blurb and even though the cover is gorgeous, I don’t think this is for me. I could be wrong, but I think it’s time to pass.

Verdict: GOES

Book Cover for "Kingdom of Souls" by Rena Barron

Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron

WHY HAVE I NOT READ THIS ONE YET?! I even own a copy (multiple in fact) 🤦🏼‍♀️ This one sounds amazing. I love a good, dark fantasy with magic and thrills to spare. Now to make some time in my schedule….

Verdict: STAYS

The Archived by Victoria Schwab

Ummm….👀 How did I miss this one? I do not remember adding this one to the TBR, however that blurb is everything and the cover is stunning. I love the world the blurb sets up: when you die, your life becomes a book, and the only people with access to those books are Librarians. Need this one asap.

Verdict: STAYS

Book Cover for "The Archived" by Victoria Schwab
Book Cover for "Darkdawn" by Jay Kristoff

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff

Since I haven’t read the first book in this series yet, this one is going with the promise that it will in all likelihood return at some point 😂

Verdict: GOES

Bloodleaf by Crystal Smith

I love these types of fantasies. Give me all the princesses that aren’t the damsels in distress but are out there rescuing themselves and their kingdoms while they are at it. This one sounds like that, and I did purchase an audio copy of the book a while back. I just need to carve out some time to listen to it…

Verdict: STAYS

Audiobook Cover for "Bloodleaf" by Crystal Smith
Book Cover for "The Jack" by M.K. Harkins

The Jack by M.K. Harkins

I really loved book one of this series, I just never got around to reading the second one. It’s an interesting dystopian fantasy/sci-fi about a group of immortals. I go back and forth on whether I’m going to read this one, mainly because it has been so long I’d need to reread book one. For now, I think I’ll keep it….

Verdict: STAYS
