Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!
Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back after an unexpected hiatus and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole today. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 264 books on it; my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them). Want to join me?
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the blurbs of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.
Between Burning Worlds by Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell
This is a second book of a now completed trilogy. I semi-enjoyed book one, Sky Without Stars. But honestly, I couldn’t tell you much about it at this point. I do remember that this is a Les Miserables retelling which is why I picked it up in the first place. I’m thinking I’ll keep it for now, but I’ll need a reread of book one first 😅
Verdict: STAYS
The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park
I remember adding this one to my TBR. While I’m not a huge fan of YA romance, this one looked cute. It’s about two classmates who work at an escape room together and decide to join forces to win a survival challenge. I may come back to this one at some point, but for now I’ll skip it.
Verdict: GOES
I am mad at myself that this is still on my TBR! I devoured the first two books of this series….like I read both in under two days. Then I waited for this one to be released, and I didn’t even have to wait all that long (a month I think…). And what did I do?! I forgot to read it!!! I think a series binge is in my future.
Verdict: STAYS
The Princess Will Save You by Sarah Henning
I’m not going to lie, I put this one off when I realized it was a series. I wanted to sit and binge it at once. I had so many series that I’ve started that are left unfinished (see book above 😂) that I didn’t want to start another. Now, I do own all three books so I just need to make some time….maybe next month. Because Reading is hosting their series in a month challenge.
Verdict: STAYS
Set Fire to the Gods by Sara Raasch & Kristen Simmons
I remember adding this one to my TBR, then promptly forgetting about it 🫣 I love Raasch so I have no doubt I’ll enjoy this one. I like that it is described as Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Gladiator. In truth, that’s all I needed to know.
Verdict: STAYS
Seasons of the Storm by Elle Cosimano
Soooo….I’ve actually read a portion of this one, but wasn’t enjoying it. However, I enjoyed it enough that I thought it was just the reading funk I was going through at the time and added it to my TBR to try again at a later date. It’s a later date, and I think I’ll give it a go soonish 😅
Verdict: STAYS
I know why this one is on my TBR even though I don’t remember adding it. It is billed as Harry Potter meets Narnia, and I am here for it. However, it is not available at the library, and I’m trying to read more of what I already own before adding to that pile. So for now, it goes.
Verdict: GOES
So this used to be an auto-buy author for me, but I just don’t read much contemporary romance anymore. For now, it goes.
Verdict: GOES
I really enjoyed the first two books of this series, so I’m not sure what kept me from continuing it. I need to go back and finish it.
Verdict: STAYS
Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Another one that I really enjoyed the first book, yet somehow didn’t finish the series. I sense a theme for today’s post 😅 JLA is one of my favorite authors and an auto-buy one for me. I’ve slowly made my way through her back list. I think this is the last series of hers (minus her contemporaries) that I need to read.
Verdict: STAYS

I have so many books on my TBR but I won’t remove them. Most are freebies and I’m glad to have them as options. I don’t have to work down my TBR to finish it per se, as long as I am reading from it and enjoying books. I mean I want to have those options there. The likelihood I will choose some of the books I read less, like contemporary romance, may be slim but sometimes I do read them. I appreciate the concept though.

Okay, so I’ve read the first two, and I agree with your keeping the first one. The second one I did really like, but it wasn’t anything spectacular, so saving it maybe for later is a good idea. As for the Armentrout book, I loved the Covenant series, so you should definitely keep that one and finish that series. lol. Great list!
