Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

I read a lot of indie books so this week’s topic is right up my alley: “Top Ten Books We Enjoyed That Have Under 2000 Ratings On Goodreads.”  A few of the books I found on my list I was shocked that more people don’t know them! A few are even in my top reads/favorite shelf on Goodreads. As always these are in no particular order, covers link to Amazon (affiliate) and my review.

Top Ten Underrated Books on Goodreads

Futureless
Book Cover for "The Codex" by Joe Duck
Book Cover for "Strings" by David Estes
Book Cover for "Strain of Resistance" by Michelle Bryan
Book Cover for "Shock Me" by Ashley C. Harris

Futureless by K.J. Draeghan (4 ratings): This was one of my favorite reads from 2014. It is an epic fantasy, set in its own world, with creatures I’ve never imagined, and alternates POV among the five main characters. Honestly how anyone doesn’t know about this book boggles my mind. It is a must read!!!

The Codex: An Angel’s Guide to Seducing a Human by Joe Duck (33 ratings): This was my pick for best read by debut author in 2015. It’s a satire with a fantasy element. I was laughing so hard at one point reading this book that my husband was laughing at me.

Strings by David Estes (67 ratings): I adore this book! Of course I love the author as well so maybe I’m a bit biased 😉 The book is a retelling of the classic Pinocchio except the main character is a girl and her strings keep her alive. It’s a bit of a scifi/dystopian. I can’t recommend this read more!

Strain of Resistance by Michelle Bryan (78 ratings): This is another favorite author of mine, but this particular book is so different from her other series! It’s addictive in the train-wreck-can’t-look-away kind of way. Bixby is foul-mouthed, hard to like, yet you root for her in the post-apocalyptic, zombie-esque world. Must read!!!

Shock Me by Ashley C. Harris (86 ratings): I adore this book! It’s a young adult, scifi. Think X-men go to high school. It is a fantastic, fun read. Plus it’s clean with a character girls can really look up to. AND each book in the series just gets better. Currently I’m dying to get my hands on the next installment!

Cover - The Legacy
Book Cover for "Angelfire" by Hanna Peach

The Phoenix Rising: Destiny Calls by Phonic Arielle (97 ratings): This is one of those books that I’m not sure I would have picked up on my own. There is a slight paranormal element to it, but for the most part it is story about the slave trade/poachers in South Africa. It’s an interesting, enlightening read. And the main character’s transformation from American college student to moral leader is well worth the read.

Life: Citizens of Logan Pondby Rebecca Belliston (120 ratings): I’m a sucker for dystopians and this series is perfection! An economic collapse has caused the world to fall to the times of no electricity, no running water, fractured government. It’s an intense read about a community that bands together and takes care of their own. Awesome read!

The Legacy by Melissa Delport (159 ratings): Another dystopian, imagine that 😉 This book is for the adult crowd and just amazing! I loved every word. And that prologue!!!! Basically WWIII decimated the world and the survivors are just trying to survive. A new president in the US has control and he is the worst you can imagine, so a band of rebels are attempting to overthrow him. Must read!

Arcana by Jessica Leake (255 ratings): A historical fiction with a touch of fantasy. Set in London during the times of coming out parties, escorts, and suitors, this is a wonderful read. I loved reading the alternative history the author sets out where the fae are real and the main character has magic. It’s a sweet story that reminds me a bit of Pride and Prejudice with the two main characters.

Angelfire by Hanna Peach (1,139 ratings): This is the first book in the Dark Angel saga, one of my favorite series. It’s an urban fantasy, paranormal romance for the 16+ crowd. The mythology, the world-building, the characters….all of it simply fantastic!!! I love Alyx, the sword-wielding angel, and Israel, the street thief. Their story is one you should read ASAP!

  1. Ok, you may be the winner. This is the first list I’ve read this week that is smack in my genre interests yet I haven’t heard of ANY of the books. (Heading over to Goodreads).
