Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This week’s topic is “In honor of Fall Tv, do a tv-themed topic.” I’ll admit, I’m not much of a TV watcher. My son and husband rule the TV and I read, which works out to my advantage  😀 So when this week’s topic came up, I decided to check TVLine’s site to see what new shows were coming this Fall. I honestly had a hard time narrowing it to 10! There are a lot of new shows coming that I’d like to see, a few even based off books. As always these are in no particular order.

Top Ten New TV Shows Coming This Fall

Westworld (HBO, Premieres Oct. 2nd)

Westworld is a new series that is based off the 1973 Michael Crichton film by the same name. Westworld is an amusement park set in the future, offering visitors the chance to be gunslingers in the Wild West which is populated by androids. To me this sounds amazing! Plus I love Crichton, looking forward to seeing this one.

Designated Survivor (ABC, Sept. 21st)

Kiefer Sutherland….need I say more?! I love Dystopians/post-apocalyptic books and shows so I have no doubt I will enjoy this one. Kiefer Sutherland’s character is a low member in the presidential cabinet that is handed the presidency after an attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him in the line of succession. I’m curious really to see how this one will play out.

Emerald City (NBC, Jan. 6th)

So this one technically doesn’t start until this Winter but I had to include it. I have always been a fan of The Wizard of Oz and all the original stories by Frank L. Baum. I love the retellings and all the different takes, my favorite being SyFy’s Tin Man. I cannot wait for this retelling of Oz! It looks to be dark and a mixture of dystopia/ancient world.

Man with a Plan (CBS, Oct. 24th)

Matt LeBlanc 😀 I had the biggest crush on him (or maybe it was just on Joey) when I was a kid. I’m excited to see him in a different role as a father and husband. It should at least be entertaining!

Midnight, Texas (NBC, TBA)

To say I’m a little worried about this one is an understatement. I enjoy Charlaine Harris’s books, this one included! I loved the Sookie Steakhouse series, which is better known as True Blood from the HBO show. True Blood however was awful!!! I felt like I was watching one giant orgy and there was really nothing in common with the books except the character names and a few of the events in the first season. I’m holding out hope that this will hold true to the books.

Powerless (NBC, TBA)

I love all the Superhero shows that are out now – Arrow, Agents of Shield, Daredevil….all of them! This one is from DC Comics and it pokes fun at itself. I like the premise and can’t wait to see if it takes off.

Riverdale (CW, midseason)

I’m curious to see this Archie comic remake. Basically the creators are taking the original comic and make a dramedy, at least that’s my understanding. Den of Geeks has done their homework on what the cast looks like. I personally think they’ve done a great job, now here’s hoping the script is good too 😀

Still Star-Crossed (ABC, Midseason)

Now this one is based on a book which tells the story of the what happened after the star-crossed lovers died. How did their kingdoms fair? It’s actually a really good book though I’m not sure how good of a show it will be. I could see a movie, but a show…I’m on the fence. Guess we’ll see soon 😀

This is Us (NBC, Sept. 20)

I love how this show will follow different characters and occasionally intertwine their lives together. It sounds interesting, and the trailer is enough alone to make me watch it. If I had to pick my number one new show for this fall, this would be it.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (Netflix, Nov. 25th)

https://youtu.be/fTnU5MG5Edw

Yes I know I’m cheating a bit as this isn’t a new show but a revival/reunion season. Still it warrants being on my list 😀 I am beyond excited for the show. My husband and I have already rewatched (for like the 3rd or 4th time) the entire series. I’m thinking I may do one more round before November, just so I’m refreshed. I seriously can’t wait!!!

  1. Other than the new Gilmore Girls, I hadn’t even heard of any of these, but now I am insanely excited for almost all of them! For a second, I thought Powerless was going to be Tera Lynn Childs book made into a show, but even knowing it isn’t, I am still excited :p

    My TTT.

  2. OOoh nice picks!! Excited for Emerald City and Midnight Texas as well…after just learning about them this afternoon! LOL! So didn’t hear about these but am excited! I still need to read Charlaine’s Midnight Texas books though.

And omg, you were so right about True Blood. Season 1 was probably the better of the seasons, I think it tried to stay true to each book for a little bit, but by season 5? it totally went off the reservation. And don’t even get me started on all those orgies. Ugh. So disappointing because the books had like 1, maybe 2 actual sex scenes. Just like HBO to take an awesome series and sex it up! LOL!

    Great picks!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!
