TTT #142 – Fall 2018 TBR

Posted September 18, 2018 by Lillian in Features / 63 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together

Happy Tuesday y’all! The first day of fall in the US is Saturday, and I cannot wait. I love fall weather, football, apple spice (NOT pumpkin 😝) and new books. This week’s topic is “Books On My Fall 2018 TBR,” and there are a LOT this year. Below is a list of my top ten books on my Fall TBR, in no particular order. As always, covers/titles link to Amazon(aff)/Goodreads/Blog.

Books on My Fall 2018 TBR

Wildcard by Marie Lu (9/18): I listened to Warcross earlier this year and loved it! I’m fascinated with the sci-fi world Lu created. Also that cliffhanger!! I cannot wait to start this one.

Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd (10/2): I am a sucker for fantasy AND I love Shepherd so this book automatically made my TBR. I’m intrigued by the blurb and can’t wait to dive head first into the world of Pretties and Beasties.

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor (10/2): I fell in love with this high fantasy when I read Strange the Dreamer earlier this year. I cannot wait to finish the story when this comes out in a couple of weeks.

Star-Crossed by Pintip Dunn (10/2): Science fiction with a mix of romance is exactly what I want when I read this one. Dunn is my go-to for that and the cover 😍

Light Years by Kass Morgan (10/9): I am probably more excited about this than I ought to be considering I’ve never read this author. From reading the blurb I’m getting a cross between Star Wars and Star Trek vibe which is why I’m so excited. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

The Next Person You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom (10/9): I read my first Albom book for a class in college and fell in love with the style of writing. I cannot wait for this book because I adored the one it’s based on.

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (10/23): After all these years, the Throne of Glass series is coming to an end. I’m equal parts scared and excited for this book. It’s listed at just shy of 1000 pages on Goodreads and I’m ready to find out how it all ends. I just pray Maas doesn’t pull a George R.R. Martin on us 😉

The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout (10/30): I am beyond excited for this book! I fell in love with the Lux series and hoped after reading the kindle version of Oblivion which is the first three books of the series. It hinted at a spinoff series and y’all I hope this is it!

Look Alive Twenty-Five by Janet Evanovich (11/13): At this point, I’m reading for completion on the Stephanie Plum series. I love it! I started it in high school. At that time only about 8 books were out. Since then, I’ve been reading a new one every year. These are funny, sometimes suspenseful, sometimes steamy, cupcake reads. I look forward to them every year. Though I have to admit, I’m ready for Stephanie to choose between Morelli or Ranger OR kick them both to the curb for someone new.

Dark Harmony by Laura Thalassa (Unknown): I’m being optimistic here 😉 The author has said it may not be available til late December/early January. HOWEVER she did post on Facebook just a few weeks ago that it was in final edits so maybe sooner 🤞 I can dream right?! In all seriousness though, The Bargainer series is fantastic and I’m both excited and sad to see it come to an end. Though I cannot wait to see what magic Thalassa has in store for us 😀

    • I was shocked I found a copy of Wildcard at my local bookstore last Friday so I’ve already got it in hand. Just need to start it ☺️ Hope you enjoy them!

  1. I haven’t gotten to Warcross yet, but I have the audio. I just got notice that my pre-order of the second one came in today. Yay! Just need to get to them now. There are so many great books coming out this fall and so many older books in my shelves I want to read as well. I wish I could take a reading vacation and spend the entire time reading. Have a great week!

    • Yay!! You’re the first I’ve heard anything about Wildcard. I’m excited to read it. I actually found a copy at my local bookstore last Friday so I picked it up then. I haven’t started it yet though. Thanks for stopping by 😀

  2. I forgot about Light Years! It’s on my goodreads to read list, but I guess I hit that “want to read” button and then promptly forgot about it. I read The 100 series by her, and though I prefer the tv show, the books were entertaining! I haven’t heard of Star Crossed until now, but I read the synopsis and I like the sound of it! Have a great fall Lillian!

  3. Ooh nice picks!! Super excited for Wildcard! Though with my current schedule I probably won’t get to read it anytime soon! Maybe December…but likely 2019! Whelp! Loved The Darkest Star! My friend who had an ARC loaned me hers and it was as amazing as I had hoped for! I also liked Grim Lovelies and am curious to see where Megan takes this series! Really want to read Dunn’s previous series that I have the first book in my TBR pile…somewhere! Things tend to get lost in there! LOL!

Hope you get around to reading all of these this fall! Happy Reading!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    • I’m really excited for Wildcard. I actually found a copy at my local bookstore on Friday last week and grabbed it. I haven’t had a chance to start it yet though. Hope you enjoy it!

    • I did too….it’s one of the reasons I put off reading Tower of Dawn. I’m planning to time it so I can read it and then go straight into KoA. Hope you enjoy it!

  4. I need to read the Marie Lu and Laini Taylor books definitely!

I’ve had to give up on Stephanie Plum. I started reading them when I was 18 and I think the first 6 were out and omg I absolutely LOVED them. But somewhere in the teens I just started to lose interest and by the time we hit 20, I had to give it up. I just can’t take how short they are now, how padded out they are, how repetitive and how Stephanie is still terrible at her job and still can’t choose. Just MAKE A CHOICE ALREADY! Haha, I’m a Rangerbabe but at this stage I honestly don’t care who she chooses, just that actually she finally chooses someone.

    • Yes 🙌 I feel the same about Stephanie. At this point I’m just reading for completion sake. They are very predictable and no real movement in the story. If anything ever happens to grandma though, I’ll stop 😂

  5. In your comment on my post, you suggested listening to Strange the Dreamer on audiobook, which is exactly how I read it the first time, because the audiobook was available at my library with a much shorter wait than the book. I totally agree; it was so well done! And the cliffhanger is so upsetting.

Grim Lovelies sounds great. I gave up on Stephanie Plum after nine or so books. They are funny, but yeah, the triangle needs to get resolved.

    • Oh that’s awesome! Audios are still a new love for me so I tend to recommend them any chance I get 😉
At this point, I’m trying to stick with Stephanie for completion sake but I’m about ready to give up too.

    • I love sci-fi so I’m hoping Light Years lives up to expectations ☺️ I never read The 100 but want too. I enjoyed the show before I realized it was a book. Hope you enjoy your reads this fall!

  6. I have preordered Kingdom of Ash! I am not sure when I’ll get to it because I am still re-reading the series! I hope I can finish the series by the end of the year. Grim Lovelies looks SO good. I hope I’ll be able to get to it too! Great list 🙂 thanks for checking out my post!

    • I reread the series last year before I read Empire of Storms. I still haven’t read Tower of Dawn so my goal is to read it and then KoA. I have a feeling though that after I read them I’ll want to read the entire series again. Hope you enjoy them ☺️

  7. Just read Wildcard today and I LOVED IT! Will be reading Muse of Nightmares in two weeks, and I’ll read Kingdom of Ash as soon as I can read Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, and then get a copy from the library. I have a few new releases/library books to get to first (they all seem to come at once) but then I can get to the other books on my TBR.

    • Yay!! I’m hoping to start it this weekend. I loved Warcross.

It’s prob smart if you to binge those three together. I read Empire of Storms last year and kind of regret it. Not that I didn’t love it but that cliffhanger😩 I still need to read Tower of Dawn but I’m going to try to do that and read KoA together when it comes out. Only a month left!

  8. Aaaaaww.. your graphics… I love them.. do you make them yourself. I envy your creativity. 🙂

ABout the books, Wildcard should be in my list too because I think I’d be reading Warcross but maybe I’ll push this series on my Winter TBR. hehe. i’m excited to hear your thoughts on Grim Lovelies. I requested it on Netgalley but not approved.

    • Thank you Lili! I really wish I could take credit for the graphics but sadly cannot 😉 Michelle @ Limabean Designs made them and she is fantastic!

I cannot wait to read Grim Lovelies. I requested as well but didn’t receive it. Won’t stop me from grabbing a copy though as soon as I can. Love Shepherd!

    • I love Laura Thalassa! If you think Dark Harmony sounds interesting, I highly suggest you try the first book of the series The Bargainer. The whole series is fantastic!

  9. Ahhh, I’m so excited for the release of Kingdom of Ash! (I can’t believe I forgot to include it on my fall TBR)
But omg I totally feel ya– I don’t know if I’m ecstatic, scared, or sad for the TOG series to end. I guess all 3?

All these books look so interesting! Hope you enjoy them all! 🙂

  10. Im excited for Muse. Of Nightmares as well however i wont allow myseof to start that series until i finish her other series first. Ive heard great things about the series so far though.
I stopped read the Throne of Glass series a couple of years ago but im interested to see what people think of the end of the series before i decide to continue or not. I’m looking forward to your thoughts!

  11. YAY for “Wildcard.” Always fun to see shared reads on lists. Hope you enjoy this one, Lillian – and thanks so much for the visit to Finding Wonderland. 🙂
