Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together
Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With.” I read a lot of sci-fi, dystopias SO there really isn’t anyone I’d be willing to switch places with. In fact, I’d pay to NOT switch places with them. I’m going to tweak the topic just a little 😉 Below are the characters I love but would never switch places with in no particular order. As always, book titles/covers link to Blog/Goodreads/Amazon(aff).
Ten Characters I Would Never Switch Places With
Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: Umm…no, just no. I love Katniss. I love her drive and devotion to her family. But there is no way I’d volunteer as her tribute. Nope!
Bella from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: As much as I love the sparkly vampires, I don’t want to be one. Even for immortality, I do not want to live as Bella does. I do not want to know my best friend is a werewolf and my boyfriend is a vampire. It’s just creepy. I mean he’s a hundred years older than her….
Hermione from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling: I’ve always joked that I’d love to live at Hogwarts. Magic and all that would be cool….but in all honesty why would I switch with Hermione?! She’s trapped in a bathroom with a troll, petrified by a VERY large snake, has to use a time turner because there aren’t enough hours in the day, kidnapped by mermaids, discriminated against because she’s muggle-born, and then lives as a refugee for a year while preparing to fight a battle there’s no hope of winning. Why would I be her?!
Aelin from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: I love this series. Like I want to read it over and over again kind of love. But I do not want to trade places with Aelin or any of the characters. Aelin is tortured not once, not twice, but several times. She is nearly killed more than once. Why would I switch with her? Nope just give me the book 😉
Lizzie from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: I might be forgiving of Mr. Darcy because Lizzie is just as prideful and prejudice as he is, but I do not want to be her. No matter how swoon-worthy Mr. Darcy may be!
Cress from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: I love Cress. I was initially put off by her naivety, but she won me over in the end. That said, there is no way I’d want to switch places with her. She is raised on a satellite, by herself!!! I’m an introvert, and I like having time alone, but I’d go crazy by myself for that long.
Callie from The Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa: This is one of my favorite series, but I would not want to switch places with Callie. She is a siren who are notorious for their bad luck. And Callie has bad luck in spades. The only thing that might tempt me is Des, but even for him I don’t think I’d do it 😂
Bixby from Strain of Resistance by Michelle Bryan: I love this potty-mouthed character! She is fiesty and will not go down without a fight. BUT she also lives in a world that is overrun by alien-zombie monster things that scare the bejeezus out of me. So sorry Bixby but I would never switch with you.
Lex from Through Glass by Rebecca Ethington: Like Bixby, Lex is a beast! She is fighter, and you want her on your side when crap hits the fan. BUT she lives in a world with these scary creatures, you can’t make a sound or they’ll come for you and rip you to shreds….literally. Y’all no way would I switch with her.
Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum: This book was one of my favorite stories growing up and still is. I love it and all its reincarnations. However, I wouldn’t switch with Dorothy, even for the chance to visit Oz. Why? She has a witch that wants to kill her chasing her throughout the whole book AND doesn’t know how to get home. That’s scary for a little girl.
Your turn! What characters do you love but would never switch places with? Any of them make my list? Share below 💋
I think we all want to be Hermione. 🙂

I love the twist to your list! I love many of the books you’ve listed here but I wouldn’t want to live in them, better to observe from the distance with a hot cup of tea 😉 I’m a new follower!

I’d actually quite happily swap places with both Hermione and Aelin, once their stories are done and all the danger is over!

Ah, you switched the topic up a bit! Saw that elsewhere today too! Took me a bit to catch onto that when I was reading your picks! LOL! I am not too familiar with all of these but I do agree with your points and reasonings as to why you wouldn’t want to switch places with them!
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!

Hermione is one of my favorite characters ever, but I’d never survive all those battles.
