Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!
Happy Saturday y’all! It’s been a couple of months, but I’m back and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole this month. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 301 books on it; my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them). Want to join me?
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the blurbs of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.
The Hummingbird Heart by A.G. Howard
I really enjoyed the first book of this series and cannot believe I haven’t continued reading it. I’m hanging on to this one and y’all it’s moving up on my TBR 😉
Verdict: STAYS
Dread Nation by Justina Ireland
I added this one to my TBR the first time I heard of it which was prior to its publication. I love historical fiction, I love zombies, I love that this is an alt history of the civil war with ZOMBIES. I never picked up a copy to read though….but while making this post I found it is on sale for $1.99 (Amazon US anyways) so guess what I got 😀
Verdict: STAYS
The Tombs by Deborah Schaumberg
Confession time: I do not remember this book at all. I don’t remember adding it to my TBR. I don’t remember what my opinion of it was at the time. Zero recollection. That said, reading the blurb now, I’m ambivalent. I could take it or leave it, and since I have so many others I definitely want to read, I think it’s time to say goodbye to this one. Though I am curious if any of you have read it, what are your thoughts?
Verdict: GOES
Occasionally, thrillers and mysteries find their way onto my shelves. It’s not my first choice, I have to be in the mood for these kinds of books. That said, I don’t remember adding this one to my TBR. I do have to say that after reading the blurb, I can see why I added it. It sounds amazing!
Verdict: STAYS
This Heart of Mine by C.C. Hunter
Another one I do not remember….this is becoming a trend 😆 I also haven’t read this author before, though I have heard great things! This one is a YA contemporary with a touch of romance and, if i had to guess, some romance too. I like the premise, but it sounds like it will be an emotionally heavy book. I read to escape real life, so I’ll most likely skip this one for now…but it may make its way back to my list.
Verdict: GOES
Yet another one I do not remember *smh* However, it only took one sentence into the blurb to convince me to keep it: “After receiving a distress call from a drill team on a distant planet, a skeleton crew is sent into deep space to perform a standard search-and-rescue mission.” Now to find a copy and read it ASAP.
Verdict: STAYS
Pride and Prometheus by John Kessel
While I do not remember adding this one, I know why I did. It’s a mashup of Jane Austen and Frankenstein. I’m an Austen girl through and through, and typically devour anything even remotely related to her. That said, I’m not a fan of Frankenstein. So while this one appeals, it doesn’t appeal enough to stay.
Verdict: GOES
Blue Ridge Sunrise by Denise Hunter
While this one sounds good–I do LOVE small town romances–it’s not appealing to me enough to keep. I may change my mind by the time this posts, but for now it goes.
Verdict: GOES
You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando
I’m seeing a pattern with today’s books…I don’t remember this one either 😆 However, there are a lot of thriller/mysteries bunched together on my Goodreads TBR which means I had either asked for recs on that particular genre or was in the mood to read that and read a bunch of other bloggers’ reviews….if I had to guess. Now to this book. It doesn’t appeal to me at all. It’s just not my thing. This is a classic case of “It’s me, not you.”
Verdict: GOES
The Night Realm by Annette Marie
I love a good urban fantasy adventure. This one takes place in the underworld. It is in KU, and from one of my favorite indie authors. So yeah, I’ll get around to it eventually 😉
Verdict: STAYS
I know exactly why this one is on my TBR even if I don’t remember the book itself. Romily Bernard! I read her book Never Apart as an arc and read it in one sitting. To say I devoured it is an understatement. I couldn’t read it fast enough. So naturally I looked to see if she had any other books out and immediately added them to my TBR.
Verdict: STAYS
Pitch Dark by Courtney Alameda
I don’t know if or when I will ever get the chance to read this one, however I have every intention of keeping it. I love space operas and space thrillers. And this is exactly that.
Verdict: STAYS
Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston
I am a sucker for all things space. This one is a retelling of Anastasia in space with robots and rebels and all the things I love. How have I not read it yet?!
Verdict: STAYS
The X-Files: Stolen Lives by Joe Harris
I have been a fan of The X-Files since the third grade. It’s probably explains why I read and watch all the paranormal things that I do and why I cannot get enough of books in space. I added this one to my TBR after seeing it on Audible (I think I may even own it there, but I’m not sure). It’s no longer available so it goes.
Verdict: GOES
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Another one that I cannot believe I haven’t read yet! I actually have a copy of this one on my physical shelves. I love fantasy, and I love learning about other cultures. This one blends culture with a wholly new created world and I cannot wait to dive into it. Hopefully soon *crosses fingers*
Verdict: STAYS
