Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!
Happy Saturday y’all! It’s been a couple of months, but I’m back and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole this month. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 310 books on it; my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them). Want to join me?
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the blurbs of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody
I vaguely remember adding this one to my TBR. I love stories set around a circus, especially fantasy ones like this. While it does still sound like a story I’d enjoy, I’m not sure if I’m intrigued enough to keep it on my shelf….
Verdict: GOES
Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook by Christina Henry
I make no secret of being a Peter Pan fan. I love the original story and all its adaptation throughout the years. This one intrigued me as it gives us a twist to the classic and is told from Captain Hook’s perspective. While I don’t have a copy of my own, I think I’ll keep it on my TBR for now and maybe see if I can’t find a copy in the near future.
Verdict: STAYS
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
I forgot about this one! It sounds SO good. It’s a Jack and Jill retelling with a twist. But I also didn’t realize when I added it that it was the second book in the series, though if I’m reading right they can be read as standalone(?). I like to go in order so I think this one will go and I’ll add book one to take its place 😉
Verdict: REPLACED
Reclaiming Shilo Snow by Mary Weber
I added this one after finishing The Evaporation of Sofi Snow. While it wasn’t my favorite read, I liked it enough to add the sequel to my TBR at the time. However, enough time has passed that I don’t remember enough of the first book to want to read this one. So for now, it goes.
Verdict: GOES
Beyond a Darkened Shore by Jessica Leake
I loved Jessica Leake’s debut novel so it’s no surprise to me to find this one on my TBR. And it will stay there until I find a copy to read because I wholeheartedly plan to read it. This particular one is a historical fantasy romance that blends Celtic and Norse mythology. This is moving up my TBR…I need to find a copy ASAP.
Verdict: STAYS
This one I added to my TBR because it is an Oliver Twist retelling, and I am a sucker for all retellings. Plus Dickens! That said, I have zero desire to read this one now. So it goes.
Verdict: GOES
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
This one comes highly recommended to me from a few trusted friends. I love the idea behind this one too. I also purchased a copy not too long ago so it stays. (And if you want to read it, it is currently in KU, not sure for how long though)
Verdict: STAYS
What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum
I can honestly say that I do not remember this book in the slightest. Reading the blurb, I’m surprised it made it to my TBR. This is not my normal read. However, over the last year I’ve learned to enjoy some YA contemporaries. So maybe….but I don’t know. It wouldn’t take much to convince me to keep this one.
Verdict: GOES
The Artist’s Muse by Kerry Postle
This is another one that I’m not sure how it wound up on my TBR. I do have a soft spot for historical fiction so that may be it. That said I don’t know that I’d ever get around to reading this one….
Verdict: GOES
Where the Light Falls by Allison Pataki and Owen Pataki
This is a historical fiction set during the French Revolution. Again, not sure how this one ended up on my TBR. Typically my historical fictions have some romance involved 😉
Verdict: GOES
Kissing Max Holden by Katy Upperman
I love neighbors and friends to lovers stories so it doesn’t surprise me to find this one on my TBR. However, like the last few, I don’t remember adding it. I think I have figured out what happened. When I’d blog hop on Wednesday’s, I’d see other bloggers books that they were waiting on and was convinced I needed to read it too 😆 While this one sounds good, it isn’t my normal read so it goes.
Verdict: GOES
The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano
I have actually started and stopped this one a few times. I don’t know if it is me or the book. It sounds amazing (I love these types of fantasies), but I just haven’t been able to get into it. So it goes.
Verdict: GOES
I love this series! I’ve read all the books but this one and that’s because I needed a longer recovery time from book four. I think now that it has been a few years I need to move this up on my TBR.
Verdict: STAYS
These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch
I need to read this one! I put off reading it to encourage myself to finish the Snow Like Ashes series (which I still plan on doing), but haven’t gotten to yet. I love pirate fantasies. I think this would be a good summer read, don’t you think 😉
Verdict: STAYS

This has been on my TBR since I first learned about the book. It is YA fantasy with dual POV which I love. BUT this dual POV is also set in different timelines. I love books that alternate from past to present, and I love Legrand so this one stays.
Verdict: STAYS
