Fall is officially here in East Tennessee. This is truly my favorite time of the year. The temperatures are mild. Bugs are gone. Football becomes the weekend tradition. And pumpkins rule all. During this time of year, I love to curl up with a light blanket, a cup of hot chocolate or warm apple cider, and of course a book.
Now I’m a creature of habit. During the fall, there are certain books, certain genres if you will, that I crave. Fall brings about witches and magic, the paranormal creatures, and heart-warming romance. For me this means reading some fantasy and clean romance. A few books I’m planning to tackle this fall include:
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare – My sweet hubby got the entire collection for me for Christmas last year. The main character sees demons so I purposely put off reading them til now. I have ever intention of binge reading them in the next couple of weeks.
Beastly by Alex Flinn – I was lucky enough to score not just this book, but the entire series to date on BookOutlet(dot)com* I’ve been fascinated with the books since I first saw the preview for the movie version. I’ve held off watching the movie because I want to read the book first. I kinda adore fairy tale retellings and this one contains a bit of magic. I’m really looking forward to reading it!
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon – So I read Outlander at the beginning of the year and even joined this awesome reading challenge to read the entire series by the end of September…yeah I epically failed that one! Life hasn’t been very kind to reading this year. That being said I really enjoyed Outlander, so much so that I’m a little afraid to read more! You know sometimes series don’t live up to the expectations set by the first book so I’m hesitantly adding this to my fall reading list.
*BookOutlet.com is one of my favorite new finds this year. As a book addict, it feeds my addiction, much to my husband’s chagrin. I was able to get all five of Alex Flinn’s books (in hardcover) for $15…including shipping! That’s less than $3 a book people. Seriously if you’re looking for a good deal, check them out (and no I’m not affiliated in anyway with them I just think they are THAT awesome).
In the fall, I have the tendency to reread books. With the holidays just around the corner, I find that I don’t concentrate as well on the new ones and gravitate towards old favorites. It’s even tradition for me to reread some books. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I will reread before these season is over:
The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer – I know, I know…this series gets a lot of grief from everyone, me included, but I just love it. The first time I ever read it was about 4 months after I finished college (for those of you that don’t know, those were my dark years aka I read 0 books for fun!) and I fell in love with the simplicity of the plot. I easily got lost in the story and despite hating the last book…why did Jacob even have a POV?!…I still love to read it.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Not only are these great movies, but they are great books! I fell in love with them the first time I read them. I love Katniss and Peeta, I love the horror of the games, and I love Haymitch 😀 Every time I read them I find something new that I missed before…which is quite a feat considering I’ve read them more times than I can count!
