Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
It’s the first day of December…only 25 days left til Christmas and only 31 left in 2015! That just doesn’t seem right 😀 This week’s top ten topic is “Top Ten 2016 Debuts Novels We Are Looking Forward To.” Every year I find a bunch of great debut authors I can’t wait to read and 2016 is no different. I really had a hard time narrowing down my list to only ten!! I managed to do it though and really my title should read include FIRST HALF of 2016 for my debuts 😉 These are in order by release date and covers link to Amazon page.
Top Ten 2016 Debut Books I Can’t Wait to Read
This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp (Jan. 5, 2016)
The premise of this book looks to be a good one! It’s about a school shooting and coming from the generation of the Columbine shooting I’m interested to see if the author captures the horror of the students. It’s told from four different students’ perspectives over 54 minutes. Sounds like an intense read to me 😀
Sword and Verse by Kathy MacMillan (Jan. 19, 2016)
“Literacy is a capital offense for all but the nobility…” Main character’s father taught her to read before she is sent into slavery and then she is thrown in as tutor-in-training….Sounds epic!!! Plus I love a good fantasy!
Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers (Feb. 2, 2016)
The synopsis of this book has a Romeo & Juliet –esque feel, with a bit of a Godfather twist. The main characters are assassins and from different Families. When the girl’s Family is killed all in one night, she is out for revenge and the only family it could be is the boy’s she feel in love with.
Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman (Feb. 9, 2016)
This is a historical fiction based off none other than the infamous Blackbeard. I love this time period and I don’t know there is just something intriguing about a pirate, plus there’s a little romance thrown in too!
Beyond the Red by Ava Jae (March 1, 2016)
I absolutely love a good science fiction/space opera and THIS book looks to be just that. It’s about an alien queen siding with a half-breed rebel soldier to try and save their planet. I WANT this book!!!
Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie (March 1, 2016)
The synopsis says it is Red Queen meets Shadow and Bone that’s enough for me to NEED this book!
Into the Dim by Janet B. Taylor (March 1, 2016)
A girl finds out her mother is a part of a time traveling agency and they are in Scotland. Ummm…Outlander is what it is being compared to so I HAVE to read this one to see if it’s true 😉
Stone Field by Christy Lenzi (March 29, 2016)
Part historical fiction and part retelling this book sounds right up my alley!! Set during the Civil War and inspired by Wuthering Heights I know I will be picking this debut up!
The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye (May 17, 2016)
This is about a girl and boy with extraordinary powers, a king who needs an enchanter, and a fight to the death. I’m thinking Hunger Games meets Beautiful Creatures meets the Young Elites….so of course I NEED to read this one!
Never Ever by Sara Saedi (June 21, 2016)
Another Peter Pan retelling…what can I say? I’m addicted to Neverland and this one looks to be unique!
Your Turn! What 2016 debuts can you not wait to get your hands on?
We have some books in common this week! I am particularly looking forward to seeing how well Marieke Nijkamp’s book goes down!

I didn’t add “Blackhearts” to my list, but it does sound like an intriguing read. 🙂

I honestly don’t pay much attention to upcoming debut books or authors. I don’t even know how people hear about books which aren’t published yet. I went off the board this week and hope I have provided a service at the same time for holiday shopping tips for book lovers. My Top Ten Tuesday list

Neverland is definitely on the rise. It is not one of my favorite tales, but there seems to be quite a few retellings on the horizon. I read Alias Hook last year and didn’t care for it much and realized I don’t much care for Peter Pan. I do hope you enjoy all the books on your list though and there are plenty of books I want without adding Peter Pan to the mix – haha!

What a terrific list! You have me curious about This is Where it Ends. It does sound intense! I will have to keep my eye out for that one. Sword and Verse sounds really good too. Blackhearts made my list also. I look forward to that one coming out. Never Ever is another new one to me, which I wouldn’t mind looking further into. Thank you for sharing!
