2017 Reading Challenges: 1st Quarter Update

Posted March 31, 2017 by Lillian in Challenges / 6 Comments

How is the first quarter of 2017 already gone?! I know I say this every month, but TIME NEEDS TO SLOW DOWN! I didn’t do great during this quarter on my challenges. If you missed yesterday’s post, I suggest you read it to find out why. I won’t rehash the details here 😉 I’ll just say I’ve been super busy with our move. Oh and my son had his first baseball game last night 😀 March was pretty much a wash for reading, my juju was gone, but it’s coming back so I’m hoping for a more productive reading quarter next time! Read on to see how I’ve done so far on this year’s challenges. They are organized in alphabetical order, so if you don’t want to read about each challenge skip on down to the one’s you are interested in.

The Audiobook Challenge 2017 is hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Hot Listens. For this challenge, you simply listen to audiobooks. You can sign up anytime between now and December 31, 2017. I’m aiming for the Socially Awkward level (15-20 audiobooks). During this quarter, I managed to listen to 6 audiobooks (I still need to review the last three…they’re coming!). Here are the books I listened to during the 1st quarter:

  1. Seven Black Diamonds by Melissa Marr

Here are the books I read during the 1st quarter:

The 2017 Reading Assignment Challenge is hosted by Berls @ Fantasy is more fun and Michelle @ Because Reading. The point of this challenge is to simply make a list of books you plan to read (1-4 books per month) and choose books to read from that list. It’s harder than you think 😉 You can still sign up for this challenge until July 1st. I decided to stick with Reading Level 1 (1 book per month) this year. Here are the books I’m planning to read:

  • Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
  • The Shadow Hour by Melissa Grey
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
  • Frayed by Kara Terzis
  • Unwind by Neal Shusterman
  • Tracked by Jenny Martin
  • The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey
  • City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
  • The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
  • Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
  • Sunrise by Mike Mullin
  • Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

During this quarter, I made a C on my report card, reading 1 off my list. Here are the books I read this quarter:

  1. City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

The TBR Challenge 2017 is hosted by Wendy @ The Misadventures of Super Librarian. My TBR pile is pretty pathetic and this challenge seems like a fun way to start cleaning it up. The host has posted themes for each month with “commentary” aka review or book talk of some sort by the 3rd Wednesday of each month. You can sign up for this challenge here. My goal is simple: read one book per month and review by the commentary date. This quarter I read 1 book off my TBR pile. Here are the books I managed to read:

  1. In All My Life by Ciara Knight

TBR Challenge 2017: 1/12

The What Would Jane Do? challenge is hosted by R.A. Vucci and I’m super excited to participate. I’ve been a huge fan of Jane Austen for as long as I can remember. My husband surprised me for Christmas with a beautiful set of Austen’s books in hardback and I’m itching to read them. You can still sign up for this challenge through September 1st. My goal for this challenge is to reread all of Jane’s works and watch a few of the film adaptations 😉 That would place me in the Jane’s Wisdom category (read 3-5 books, watch 3-5 movies). During this quarter, I read 1 Austen books/adaptations and watched movies. Here are the books/movies I read/watch:

  1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

    • That is awesome that you’ve gotten your Netgalley ratio up. I have a few reviews I haven’t written yet that I’m hoping will bump mine at least above 70%

  1. Well, given that you have moved in the middle of this quarter AND been ill, I think the fact you’ve kept most of these challenges on track is mightily impressive! Have a great week-end and hope that the next quarter goes on with the strong, successful start you’ve made.

  2. I am so impressed! Even with something so monumental and hassling as a move you are still making gains with your challenges. I also need some NetGalley cheerleaders BIG time. Hoping for April showers … forget May flowers, we wanna read! 🙂

    • Haha! I love it. Going to have to remember that line. Nothing I love more Han reading during a storm. We’ve had a ton of rain so far this spring which is good because our grass is coming in nicely.
