Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together
Happy Tuesday y’all! I’m SO happy to be back. It’s been several months since I’ve participated and I’ve missed you all 😀 This week’s topic is “Hidden Gems.” This is a topic I’ve done a couple of times over the years: first with my top ten underrated titles on Goodreads and a 2016 hidden gems post. Below is a list of my top ten hidden gems in no particular order. As always, covers/titles link to Goodreads/Amazon(aff)/Blog Review.
My Top Ten Hidden Gems
Futureless by K.J. Draeghan: This was my hidden gem of 2014 and one of my favorite books. The author currently has it pulled off the market while she finishes the series. Even after four years I don’t mind the wait. It’s an amazing fantasy, unlike anything I’ve ever read! I cannot wait for the whole series 😀
Strain of Resistance by Michelle Bryan: One of my favorite authors and one of my favorite dystopians This series can best be described as a Walking Dead – Aliens – Predators mashup. At least that’s how I see it when I read it. It’s a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat read. And Bixby….I don’t know if I want to reach through the pages and hug her or smack her upside the head.
Shock Me by Ashley C. Harris: I love this book! I devoured it the first time I read it (and y’all I’ve read it at least 6 times as of writing this post). It’s like a YA version of X-Men. Fast-paced, full of mystery and a little romance, I recommend this one to everyone I meet.
The Codex by Joe Duck: This was one of my favorite reads in 2015 and it still ranks up there in the favorites category. It is satire at its best! A book that can summon a demon (and it talks to you), an angel who is extremely naive, and a young woman caught in the middle make up this fantastical story. If you want a good laugh, grab a copy asap. It’s $0.99 or free with KU and totally worth that $1 😉
The Legacy by Melissa Delport: This dystopian is written for the new adult crowd and I absolutely loved it!!! WWIII destroyed the earth and the survivors are just trying to survive. However you have an evil guy running the government and of course a rebellion ready to start. A little romance, quite a few twists, and an epic cliffhanger make this a book you do NOT want to miss.
You Are Mine by Janeal Falor: This is a dystopian fantasy that I adored. Well, adored might not be the right word 🤔 In this series, all woman are suppressed from using their magic and men are superior. Women are basically slaves and used to further population and wealth. I was equal parts impressed and horrified while reading. I love the series though. Each book is a standalone featuring a different female lead.
Broken Skies by Theresa Kay: Another sci-fi dystopia that is perfection!!! This series was the first I read that featured an alien romance. However the romance wasn’t overbearing. It was just right and fit with the story. I was fascinated reading and I’ll admit I’ve read it more than a few times.
Deep Green by Trisha Haddad: This was the first book I received on the blog to review and I was blown away. Fast-paced, high stakes, survivor type environment….it has everything including a little romance. The main characters are separated from their cruise ship and wash up on a small, deserted island. Everything that can go wrong does. It’s fantastic!!! AND I just realized there’s a sequel. Guess what I just added to my TBR pile 😉
Hope’s Decree by Angela McPherson: I’m obsessed with mythology, always have been. SO when I first read this book, I was over the moon. I LOVE urban mythology SO much. I didn’t think I would. Now I grab it anytime I can. This one is set around the myth of Pandora’s Box. SO GOOD!!! The last book of the trilogy is coming out soon too. *SQUEEEEEEE*
Broken Aro by Jen Wylie: During my break this summer, I rediscovered why I love this book (and series) SO much! I binged the first three books prior to reading the newest release last month and I enjoyed it. I had such a book hangover after too. It was fantastic!! This series is very reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings in my opinion and I cannot wait to continue the story.
