Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together
Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Character Traits I Love.” Below is a list of my favorite character traits and a ten characters/books to go with them, in no particular order. As always titles/covers link to Goodreads/Blog/Amazon(aff).
My Favorite Characters Traits
Sassy: I love a sassy character combined with dry humor. I like to laugh when I read, and it’s always nice to be surprised by a sassy character who dgaf. I like the spunk, the quick wit and take-no-crap-off-anybody attitude.
Characters: Trixie from Marvels and Misfits by Scarlett Dawn, Bixby from Strain of Resistance by Michelle Bryan
Broody: What is it with me and broody men? Amanda and I wrote an entire post dedicated to broody male characters. Heck, I even married one 😂 There is just something about the inner turmoil that draws me to them.
Characters: Conrí from The Orchid Throne by Jeffe Kennedy, Des from Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa
Cunning: Give me a character that keeps me guessing. Seriously y’all, I like the characters that leave you guessing what their next plan will be. I love the not knowing and being so thrilled when their scheming comes to an end and it all works how they planned. It’s so satisfying.
Characters: Aelin from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, Maven from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Loyal: I love loyal characters. I like it when they say what they believe or why they love and stick to it. They don’t run when things get hard. They stand beside you and fight to the end.
Characters: Vida from Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken, Jax from Broken Skies by Theresa Kay
Protective: These are the characters that will fight even to death to protect their loved ones. They will do whatever is necessary of them to keep their loved ones out of harm’s way. This is seen a lot in dystopian fiction, so it’s no surprise it made my list 😉
Characters: Simon from Written in Red by Anne Bishop, Katniss from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Broody can be a very interesting trait to read about for sure.

Lillian, I also have loyal on my list and I wish I had thought of protective, although I have the traits of honour and courage which add up to similar characters.

Loyalty is definitely underrated.

I love loyal characters too, I think it’s the Hufflepuff in me haha.

Protective and loyal are two good traits for characters to have.

Don’t die of shock, but I 100% agree with every trait you listed. 🤣🤣 Sassy and broody are my two faves, but I’m coming to really appreciate cunning characters, too. I also think “teachable” is a good characteristic, bc we all love a good character evolution.
I love me some broody males and sassy females haha. Also, loyal, yes! I feel like a lot of books use some sort of betrayal as a plot device a lot – let them characters be loyal and honest every now and then!

That’s it, I’m reading Marvels and Misfits next. I’ve read a book in each of your categories but sassy. I’ve had my eye on that one anyway.

Oh it’s so good! All her books are full of snark and sass. I hope you enjoy it ☺️
