Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together
Happy Tuesday y’all! What a crazy few weeks it’s been. My brain has not wanted to focus on much of anything so I’ve been reading….A LOT. But I’ve missed y’all so I sat down this past weekend, caught up on reviews, and have been working on these Top Ten posts. This week’s topic is “Books I Enjoyed But Rarely Talk About.” Y’all I talk about books nonstop to anyone that will listen. I guarantee you that the only ones I rarely talk about are the ones I didn’t enjoy 😉 Since I’ve missed the topics from the last several weeks, I’m going to share my Spring TBR. As always, titles/covers link to Blog/Goodreads/Amazon(aff) and are in order by release date.
Spring 2020 TBR 📚
Nate and the Invisible Girl by Michelle MacQueen (Apr. 3)
Rule #1 of falling in love with the girl you left behind: This time, stay.
Even when said girl is the one pushing you out the door.
Ten years ago, Nate Madison left Gulf City when his parents divorced, splitting up their family. He never expected to return, to have to face everyone he left behind.
When he crashes in the most important surf competition of his career, it takes away the one thing he’s always relied on, a love for the ocean.
And he isn’t sure he wants it back.
Broken, he returns to the last place he remembers feeling safe, the last people who loved him. Only, none of them are the children they were when they last parted.
Not his two siblings.
Not the girl next door, the one who’d been his best friend, his everything.
Samantha Reed thinks she’s invisible, that no one sees the girl beyond the illness clouding her days.
But he does. The more time Nate spends letting Sam heal the rift between him and the sea, the more he realizes all he sees is her.
When his old life comes calling, will he have to choose between Sam and the future he always saw for himself?
Beware of strong girls overcoming struggles, cute surfer boys, and definite beach envy.
Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth (Apr. 7)
Fifteen years ago, five ordinary teenagers were singled out by a prophecy to take down an impossibly powerful entity wreaking havoc across North America. He was known as the Dark One, and his weapon of choice—catastrophic events known as Drains—leveled cities and claimed thousands of lives. Chosen Ones, as the teens were known, gave everything they had to defeat him.
After the Dark One fell, the world went back to normal . . . for everyone but them. After all, what do you do when you’re the most famous people on Earth, your only education was in magical destruction, and your purpose in life is now fulfilled?
Of the five, Sloane has had the hardest time adjusting. Everyone else blames the PTSD—and her huge attitude problem—but really, she’s hiding secrets from them . . . secrets that keep her tied to the past and alienate her from the only four people in the world who understand her.
On the tenth anniversary of the Dark One’s defeat, something unthinkable happens: one of the Chosen Ones dies. When the others gather for the funeral, they discover the Dark One’s ultimate goal was much bigger than they, the government, or even prophecy could have foretold—bigger than the world itself.
And this time, fighting back might take more than Sloane has to give.
The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park (Apr. 7)
Love is a battlefield in this hysterical debut, perfect for fans of Jenny Han.
Nate Jae-Woo Kim wants to be rich. When one of his classmates offers Nate a ridiculous amount of money to commit grade fraud, he knows that taking the windfall would help support his prideful Korean family, but is compromising his integrity worth it?
Luck comes in the form of Kate Anderson, Nate’s colleague at the zombie-themed escape room where he works. She approaches Nate with a plan: a local tech company is hosting a weekend-long survivalist competition with a huge cash prize. It could solve all of Nate’s problems, and she needs the money too.
If the two of them team up, Nate has a real shot of winning the grand prize. But the real challenge? Making through the weekend with his heart intact…
Fae’s Deception by M. Lynn & Melissa A. Craven (Apr. 28)
Brea Robinson is a murderer.
That’s what everyone tells her when she’s accused of killing her best friend.
Her mother always claimed she belonged in a straitjacket. Turns out, she was right.
When the man with flashing violet eyes whisks her through a portal into a world beyond her imagination, a world vicious in its beauty and wicked in its lies, Brea begins to wonder if she was ever crazy at all.
Every hallucination she’s ever had is real, but this new world has its own set of lies and questions.
Why are three royals prepared to battle over her?
Who is Griffin O’Shea, and why did he abduct her?
And does falling in love with a man trapping her in this deadly land mean she really has lost her mind after all?
There is only one thing Brea knows: She can’t trust anything.
Not her mind.
Not her heart.
And certainly not the Fae who claims he’s trying to keep her safe.
Book one in Queens of the Fae series, click now to be transported into a world where lies abound, family can’t always be trusted, and falling in love is the most dangerous deed of all.
The Betrothed by Kiera Cass (May 5)
A would-be queen. A handsome young king. A perfect match…or is it?
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Selection series comes The Betrothed, a glittering royal romance sure to captivate her legion of loyal readers and lovers of courtly intrigue alike.
When King Jameson declares his love for Lady Hollis Brite, Hollis is shocked—and thrilled. After all, she’s grown up at Keresken Castle, vying for the king’s attention alongside other daughters of the nobility. Capturing his heart is a dream come true.
But Hollis soon realizes that falling in love with a king and being crowned queen may not be the happily ever after she thought it would be. And when she meets a commoner with the mysterious power to see right into her heart, she finds that the future she really wants is one that she never thought to imagine.
Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman (May 5)
Our heroes are back . . . kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic Aurora Cycle series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.
First, the bad news: an ancient evil–you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal–is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.
Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.
And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.
Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.
When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.
Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes–and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.
