Happy Saturday y’all! Today is my favorite day of the year (blogging wise)….it’s reading challenge day! For the last TEN 😱 years I’ve been participating in these reading challenges, and it really keeps me motivated. Last year, I didn’t do so hot. I fell off the review train and, had I kept up with my reviews, might have completed my challenges. Alas, I didn’t review much past April last year…life y’all 🫣 BUT this year, I’m hoping will be different.
My reading goal this year is lower than previous. I found I’m reading less books, but with higher page counts. So technically I’m reading the same amount, but fewer books which means my challenge goals suffer. My Goodreads goal this year is 100 books, which I believe is totally doable 🤞 I’m planning to participate in 7 challenges this year, one of those I co-host, and 2 of them are new-to-me.
The 2024 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer & That’s What I’m Talking About. In 2022, I found my love of audiobooks again, and in 2023, I sailed through 44 audiobooks, so I cannot wait to dive in. This challenge is all about listening whether you are new to audiobooks or an audiophile. If you are interested in joining me on this one, it started January 1, 2024 and runs through December 31, 2024. You can sign up here.
The Details
- Runs January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. You can join at any time.
- The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2024 than you did in 2023.
- Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
- All genres count.
- Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
- You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Facebook, etc. I recommend creating a shelf on Goodreads titled 2024 Audiobook Challenge. You can keep track and link the shelf.
- Grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. You can post on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or X, Threads, Mastodon, your blog etc. about the challenge.
- Updates plus a giveaway will be posted twice during the year. The first update will be July 6, 2024, and the last update will take place on December 28, 2024. You’ll have one week to link up and share your progress and enter giveaway
My Goal
This will be my 7th year participating in this challenge. Last year, I read 44 audiobooks 🙌 so I have lofty goals this year, and hoping to read 1 audiobook a week. With this in mind, my goal for 2024 is Marathoner (50+ audiobooks). Not only do I feel like this is doable, it is a great motivator to keep me reading. You can track my progress below or follow my shelf on Goodreads.
The 2024 Backlist Reader Challenge is hosted by the Bookwyrm’s Hoard, and I swear this one is made for me. This will be my third year actively participating in the challenge, and I can’t wait. My TBR and arc backlist is climbing the walls. The point of this challenge is to read those backlist books, published prior to 2023. I’m going to work on this one with a couple of other challenges throughout the year and hopefully bring my TBR down to a manageable level. This one started January 1, 2024 and ends December 31, 2024. If you want to join me, you can sign up here.
The Details
- To count for the challenge, books have to be published before 2023 AND already be on your TBR list or pile.
- Create a goals or sign-up post on your blog
- *Optional* Review the books you read for the challenge, and post your links on the review linky
- Before January 5, 2025, create and link a wrap-up post.
My Goal
I am currently sitting at 266 books on my TBR shelf on Goodreads (go me!), and I’d like to keep that trending in the right direction. I think I will set the bar low again this year with a goal of 25 books. This is doable, AND if I meet it early I can always increase later. You can track my progress below or follow my shelf on Goodreads.
The 2024 COYER: Unwind challenge is hosted by myself, Because Reading and Once Upon a Chapter this year. This will be my 9th year participating in COYER and 3rd year co-hosting. During 2020, it went from a twice a year seasonal challenge to all year, and I couldn’t be happier with it. There will be four chapters. Each chapter is slightly different so I will post my goals for each as the year progresses. The challenge started January 1, 2024 and ends December 31, 2024. You can find the sign up here.
Chapter 1: Winter Rules January – March
- Every book you read MUST be in an electronic format – meaning eBook or Audiobook. It’s okay to start a book before January 1st, you must be less than half way for it to count then review it during COYER.
- The books must be FREE or NEARLY FREE! This includes review books, tour books, NetGalley, Edelweiss, etc. What’s nearly free? No more than $5 for eBooks and no more than $7.50 for Audiobooks (or the equivalent in your currency). Library books, borrowed books, or Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Prime books, and Audible Plus Catalog books do not qualify.
- Announce your participation! This can be a blog post (or if you don’t have a blog – Facebook, Twitter, Mastodon, Hive, Instagram, TikTok, Goodreads, etc.) If you want to list books you would like to read, that’s great, but not necessary. The point is to let everyone know you’re committed to COYER Winter, maybe share some goals, and help spread the word. Not sure how to do your post? Check out this example from a previous COYER.
- Link up! Link that post (not just your blog homepage) to the linky below.
- Review & Link Reviews! Your review may be on your blog, Goodreads, etc. Link the review to the Review Linky (the same linky all year). When you post your review to the linky use the following format: Your Name @ Blog (if applicable): Book Title (e.g., “Michelle @ Because Reading: Twilight”).
- Follow & share reviews on Social Media. Use #COYER on your posts and look for others posting with the hashtag.
- Visit Each Other, Chat & Have Fun
My Goal
Since we are back to the strict rules for winter, my goal is going to be lower than I’d originally set. I’m hoping to make at least half my reads this quarter books from my NetGalley (eARC) TBR, meaning they will qualify as being free or nearly free. With that in mind, I’m setting my goal for 15 books. You can track my progress below (goal number will increase with each quarter’s goal) or follow my shelf on Goodreads.
The 2024 Fantasy/Sci-Fi Reading Challenge is hosted by Rachel @ Fantasy and Sci-Fi Fanatics. This will be my first year participating in this challenge, and I’m really excited for it! I’m a sci-fi/fantasy lover. In fact, a majority of my reading falls in one or both of those genres. For this challenge, there is a prompt for each month to read a specific trope/setting in the fantasy/sci-fi genres. I’m hoping to expand my reading a little by dipping into each one. This one started on January 1, 2024 and ends December 31, 2024. If you are interested, you can sign up here.
The Details
- Each book needs to be either a fantasy or sci-fi book. If you’re not sure whether a book fits or not, check out these fantasy genres or look at these sci-fi categories. Usually if the book takes place in another world or has elements not found in ours, it will fall into one of these two categories.
- You may pick either a fantasy or sci-fi book unless the challenge specifically states one or the other.
- You may reread a book for the category.
- Books may count for only one category.
- You may join the reading challenge at any time.
My Goal
My goal for this challenge is fairly simple. I plan to read a book each month that fits the theme/category for that month (see pic above for each month’s category). So 12 fantasy or sci-fi books are on my horizon. You can track my progress below or follow my shelf on Goodreads.
The 204 Finishing the Series Reading Challenge is hosted by my friend at Celebrity Readers. This is another of my favorite challenges. I am a series addict. I love sitting down on a weekend or taking a whole week and bingeing a series, whether it be two books or ten. That being said, since becoming a blogger and reading ARCs, there are a lot of series I’ve started but then forgot to go back and finish. The goal of this series is to finish or catch up on a series that you’ve fallen behind on. This one started on January 1, 2024 and ends December 31, 2024. If you are interested, you can sign up here.
The Details
- The challenge will run from January 1st, 2024 to December 31st, 2024. Books must be read during this time frame to count. Sign up is open from now until December 1st, 2024, so you may join even just for the last month of the year.
- Series can be already completed as well as still ongoing. For ongoing series, the goal is to catch up to the most recent book published by the end of 2024.
- We don’t care if you have only 1 book or 10 books to read in order to finish your series, as long as you’ve started the series before 2024 (ie read at least one book in the series), it counts. Re-reads are not required.
- Any format and length of book counts – print, ebook, audio, ARC, etc.
- Series can be any length (even if it’s just a Duet).
- Crossovers from other challenges are totally acceptable!
- Reviews are not required, but highly encouraged.
My Goal
This is my 7th year participating in this challenge, and my goal isn’t changing. I’m aiming for A-List Series Finisher (9 or more series). So far, I’ve met this one every year (except maybe last year….I didn’t review what I read 😅) and look forward to knocking off and completing even more this year. You can track my progress below* or follow my shelf on Goodreads.
*The challenge goal number is just a guess at the number of books I need to read to complete the challenge and not the number of series I plan to complete.
The 2024 Library Love Challenge is hosted by Angel’s Book Nook & Books of My Heart. This will be my first year participating, and it looks right up my alley. I’ve been reading more and more library books the last few years, specifically for my audiobooks. My Audible membership can’t keep up 😂 The goal of this challenge is to find a love for your local library and read at least 12 library books throughout the year. This one started January 1, 2024 and ends through December 31, 2024. You can sign up here.
The Details
- Runs: January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. You can join anytime. The sign-up will remain open until Dec. 1st, 2024.
- The goal is to find your love of your local library and to read at least twelve (12) books from the library, but you can read more. While twelve is the minimum; there is no maximum limit. See the different levels below and pick the one that works best for you.
- Any format will work for this challenge (prints, ebooks, or audios) as long as you checked it out from the library, it counts.
- Books can be any genre (fiction, nonfiction, romance, fantasy, mystery, thriller, horror, etc.).
- Crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed, including re-reads. The goal is to support your local library and save money.
- You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc.
- If you’re a blogger grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook, Tweet, or Instagram about the challenge. Please link back to both hosts: Angel’s Book Nook & Books of My Heart
- As an added bonus: We’re offering up a GIVEAWAY with this Challenge. Winner will be picked at the end of the year!! There are a few freebie entries just for signing up to join the challenge and then the main entries throughout the year will be the direct links to your book reviews. You will have until Jan. 4th, 2025 to enter your reviews in the Linky/Rafflecopter.
My Goal
I have a large physical TBR this year that I’m hoping to tackle, so I’m going to be conservative with my library goal this year. My goal is Thrifty Reader which means I need to read 24 library books this year. This is doable, considering I’m about to finish my first library read of the year with a second waiting in the wings ☺️ You can track my progress below or follow my shelf on Goodreads.
The 2024 NetGalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge is hosted by Socrates Book Reviews. This will be my 7th year participating in the challenge. Sadly, I have yet to complete my goal. This challenge is for all reviewers out there that may be behind (like me) on reading those arcs or just want to improve their NetGalley percentage. This one started January 1, 2024 and ends December 31, 2024. If you are interested, you can sign up here.
The Details
- The challenge runs from January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. There is no deadline to sign up.
- Everyone is welcome to participate – you do not need to have a blog.
- Any genre, release date, length, etc. counts – it just needs to be a book from NetGalley or Edelweiss.
- Books can count for more than one challenge that you are participating in.
- The first day of each month I will post a monthly “link-up” for you to link your reviews. If you forget one month, no worries, just catch up the next month.
My Goal
Every year my goal is the same: I want to get my NetGalley percentage above 80%. To do this, I need to read a minimum of 72 books plus any that I pick up over the course of the year AND write the 25 reviews of the books I read last year 😅 That’s a lot of books! With that in mind, my goal for 2023 is Platinum (75 books). Wish me luck! You can track my progress below or follow my shelf on Goodreads.

Good luck with all your challenges. It looks like a great 2024 ahead!

Great choices and lots of fun. I have done a lot of these and incorporate them into my memes and challenges to meet goals also. That’s the point to meet your goals and have fun and read. I look forward to seeing you at COYER and Library Love.

So many challenges! I wonder if the reason I also have been reading less books is because they have had more pages? I’ll have to keep an eye on that this year. Last year was probably the first time I really did much keeping track of number of pages. I am going to attempt COYER this year. I might join into the Series finisher later, I’ll have to keep that one in mind! Good luck with your challenges!
