Posted December 15, 2014 by Lillian in Merry Mondays / 0 Comments

Merry Mondays is a weekly meme hosted here @ Mom With a Reading Problem during the month of December to celebrate Christmas and the holiday season. Each week a different topic centered around the holidays will be discussed.

Merry Monday everyone! Today is my third holiday post and I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am. I just love Christmas and the whole season. Today’s topic was suggested by a friend of mine and I couldn’t resist using it.

Favorite Holiday Recipe

As we all prepare for family dinners next week, there is always at least one or two meals that have to be made. Or at least our families think they do! For me, it happens to be a dessert. The recipe was given to my mom by my grandmother before she died. Now I didn’t know her, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate her cooking 😉 My grandfather found an old recipe book that had some recipes she used and gave it to me when I got married. I use the heck out of it! But this is still my favorite. (Sorry no pics, I haven’t made it in a while, but it turns out really pretty!)

Mamaw Faye’s Baptist Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Sugar
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 5 Eggs

Directions

  1. Mix all DRY ingredients and set aside. Mix all remaining ingredients well. Add dry ingredients slowly, while mixing.
  2. Pour into greased and floured bundt pan.
  3. PUT IN COLD OVEN (This is important. If you place in already warm or pre-heated oven, the outer will burn and the middle will not get done.)
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 75 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Enjoy 😀

For a Chocolate Version: Substitute 2.5 cups of All-Purpose Flours and 1/2 cup Baking Cocoa for the 3 cups All-Purpose Flour

What’s your favorite holiday recipe?
