Sunday Post #80 – Poolside, Netflix Binge, and Prime Music

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things you have received. Share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you all had a great week. We did. We really didn’t do much of anything which was a nice change of pace. Little man and I spent a few days enjoying the pool at our apartments. It’s nice going in the middle of the week because it is virtually empty and it was actually warm enough to enjoy the water.

At night, my husband and I have enjoyed our Netflix bingeing. We finished season 5 of Gilmore Girls and are halfway through season 6. I cannot wait for the revival 😀 We’ve also been watching Daredevil and only have a few episodes before we are all caught up. It’s ok, not my favorite superhero but my husband is enjoying it.

Story time 😉 We have been Amazon Prime members for about 7 years now (maybe longer) and I know they are all the time adding new features. One of my favorites is the Kindle First/Kindle Owner’s Lending Library. I kind of love getting access to new books early and being able to check out a book a month, plus free two-day shipping makes my shopping experience amazing. It wasn’t until last year that I started using the video service which is almost as good as Netflix. Between the two why have cable?! But this week I discovered Prime Music and I’m in love ❤️ I did not know that I could stream music like I use to with Pandora. I did not know that some albums I could listen to in its entirety before I could buy. AND I did not know that you can even download the music to listen to later. My friends I’ve rediscovered my love of music!!! And there’s a particular playlist/station I love because of all the nostalgic feels: All 90s 😀

Reading wise it was a good week. I’ve read 5 books this week, including a fun series binge. What have you read this week?

Currently Reading

I started reading My Lady Jane last night and I’m loving it! I’m a sucker for historical fiction as it is but this has an element of sweet romance and comedy that had me snickering.

What are you reading this week?

This week is going to be a busy week so I’m glad last week was relaxing. We are only 19 days away from our move and while I’ve done a little packing here and there I need to buckle down and get to packing the bigger things now. We are all so excited 😀

On Friday my husband graduates from his residency and I couldn’t be prouder of him. This has been 13 years in the making and I’ve been with him for 12 of those years. He’s worked hard and it’s so surreal for him to be done. Proud of you sweetie ?

  1. I really need to finish up the Gilmore Girls series! Also, I have been really toying with whether or not to go ahead with Amazon Prime and I think you may have convinced me. I love getting early access to my books and I have been so disappointed waiting for those pre-ordered books to arrive. I hope that you enjoy your Merry Mondays!! 🙂

    • I really enjoy our Prime membership. At first I only had it for shipping but they’ve added so many benefits over the years with video and music. Hope you like it (plus you can get 30 days free). Have a great week!

  2. What an achievement for your husband – it has been a successful week for you! What a great book haul – I’m very intrigued by A Robot in the Garden. Have a great reading week and hope the rest of the packing goes well. Thank you for your earlier visit.

  3. Souns like a lovely week!! Congrats to your husband!! I love Amazon Prime and all its benefits. I love the music so much. We use that and the videoquite a bit. I just realized about the books about two months ago and so happy for that too. Have a great week!!

  4. What a great week, and I LOVED Gilmore Girls; I am also looking forward to the revival. It will be in four parts, my second son says (he works at a movie production company).

I also started bingeing on Parenthood…haven’t seen the show since it was on TV, so it was nice to see Lauren Graham again in her role as Sara. She was my favorite character, along with Camille. The other Bravermans were a little annoying, IMO.

Enjoy your reading…I am loving the Prime benefits, too, from the Kindle First books to the Amazon Prime videos.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • I can’t wait for the revival! This is our third or fourth Gilmore binge but I just enjoy it so much 🙂 Have never watched Parenthood. I want to though and now that the show is off I think I will binge it on Netflix. Have a great week!

    • The video isn’t great but it does supplement Netflix and without cable it’s nice to have 🙂 Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

  5. You know I never watched Gilmore Girls! I know so many people that have but I never did. Not even 1 episode!

I have My Lady Jane coming up to read soon and hope it’s good! 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Prime Audiobooks would be fantastic! I don’t listen to much music anymore either but have binged it this weekend 😀 My husband is actually the one that introduced me to Gilmore Girls. I’d never watched it until we were married. The show was still on then. Lol

  6. Congrats to your husband. I hope you enjoy your books. Happy reading and I will probably be joining in with your fun link up. I love link ups with fun prompts. ! Have a great week.

Hello! I just recently stumbled upon book blogs (where have I been, right?! Ha!) I love your blog – I’m a mom with a reading problem, too! 🙂 LOVE Gilmore Girls – I can’t wait for the new “series”!! How do you find so much time to read? I need good advice! I try to read as much as I can during nap time!

  8. Sounds like you had a nice and uneventful week. That’s neat you have a pool at your apartment complex. My Lady Jane sounds very promising! I hope you’ll enjoy it. Good luck with the last of the packing before your move. Have a great week!

  9. Finishing a residency is huge! I can relate a little, but our time was only four years past the undergrad. So thrilled for you guys!

You got some awesome reading in and have some fun reviews coming up. I’m really looking forward to reading My Lady Jane and will be grabbing a copy soon.

Thanks for stopping by and have a very fabulous week!

  10. I agree about Netflix and Amazon- between the two I don’t really need cable. I end up watching the show the next day and it works. 🙂 Have you guys watched Jessica Jones? that one’s not bad. I didn’t really know about the lending thing or Prime music- I’ll have to check that .

Merry Mondays sound nice, and congrats to your husband. Sounds fantastic!
    Greg recently posted…Sunday Post #145

    • We haven’t watched Jessica Jones yet. Plan to when we finish Daredevil though. You should definitely check out the music and kindle options in prime. They really are great!

  11. Oh, I want to read My Lady Jane so bad! Can’t wait till I can get my hands on it. Looks like you got some great books this week as well. I just can’t get rid of my cable. Too many shows I watch, and I like being able to just turn on TBS and watch The Big Bang Theory in the background as I do other things. Plus, I like to watch shows like The Walking Dead as they are being shown and tweeting along with the other people watching. Hope you have a great week, and thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post earlier!

    • I miss cable sometimes. Especially in the mornings during the Today show. That was always my routine. Oh well. It’s not too bad and after we move we’ll get it back. 🙂

  12. I have always enjoyed the episodes of Gilmore Girls that have saw here and there. I need to start from the beginning and watch. I guess we (the bf and I) need to get a Netflix subscription to do so. We also need it to watch Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

  13. Your week sounds a lot like mine. My daughter and I played in the kiddie pool almost every day and I watched a lot of Netflix with Hubby at night. I just haven’t had the best reading week. I think I’m falling into my first real slump of the year!
Thank you so much for stopping by my Sunday post! Have a great week!
Stacy Renee @ Lazy Day Literature recently posted…The Sunday Post #22

    • Hopefully you’ll break your slump soon! I felt that way last month. Everything I started was just ok and I DNFed 3 books (which I rarely ever do). Hope you have a great week!

  14. Sounds like you had a good week and I some times wish I could afford Amazon Prime cause of all the goodies. I love my netflix though! 🙂 I have never watch Gilmore Girls…shocking I know…lol.

    Great haul!

    Stormi

    • We love our Prime. Got it a long time ago when it was a monthly subscription instead of yearly. It was a little easier to work into our budget but I wouldn’t trade it for anything 🙂

  15. Pool days and Neflix nights sounds fantastic!

I had Prime for a couple years, and I also enjoyed getting to rent books and getting the Kindle First books, even though they rarely had fantasy :-/ But I loved the movies because I’m an indie movie person, and Amazon had all sorts of weird, unheard-of movies lol. Most of them were awful, but every so often I would find a gem. I never used the music though.

Congrats to your husband, and have a wonderful week 🙂

  16. Oh Lillian I love The Gilmore Girls as well. I watched it at the time and then rewatched it recently and am also excited about the reboot.

I actually wrote a post about it when I rewatched it – suggesting what I’d like to see happen in the 10 years since it’d finished. I suspect it’s not terribly accurate!
    Deborah recently posted…Weekly check-in

    • Haha! I have so many things I’d like to see happen like Luke and Lorelei finally married, Rory with a completely different guy that is the embodiment of Jess, Dean and Logan and of course some real Emily time where the walls are gone.

  17. I love Gilmore Girls! I’m so excited for the reboot, and I hope that it’s as good as the original. Now I really want to watch Gilmore Girls. You’ve got me hooked, I’m going to go re-watch it (for probably the 50th time) right now. I don’t know weather to thank you, or to be mad at you. Gilmore girls is so addictive! Have a good week. 🙂

  18. If and when I move again, I definitely want access to a pool. I’m glad you’ve been able to take advantage of the apartment’s pool. Sounds so divine! I enjoyed the Daredevil series, but, like you, wouldn’t consider it my favorite. I’m enjoying Jessica Jones much better. I haven’t gotten too far in Gilmore Girls. I’m still on Season 1. Isn’t Prime great? My daughter has a play list of her own she knows how to access. Luckily, she doesn’t know how to add songs yet . . .

Congratulations to your husband, and good luck with the movie. I hate moving with a passion (but I’d consider it for a pool–just kidding–at least, half kidding). Have a great week!

  19. Congratulations to your husband on finishing his residency. Wow! That’s a lot of years of hard work. I guess that’s why you’re moving? Good luck with the move; I hope it goes well.

We have Amazon Prime, too, and I use it for videos (and free shipping, of course), but I haven’t tried Prime Music yet. I’ll have to check it out! Between Netflix and Amazon Prime, there’s not much I miss on TV… PBS sometimes, though. They don’t stream everything.

Have a great week, and enjoy all those new books!

  20. I loved My Lady Jane! Hope you keep enjoying it. Good luck with the move! They are such pains, but worth it once you are settled in. Congrats to you your husband! That is huge news.

  21. Wow Lillian, 5 books last week! (i am beginning to see you might have a reading problem, not really i a just a bit jealous). You got so many books peaking my interest; Invasion, The A-Z of You and Me, The Goodbyes, Hostile, The Lie!!! So much I need to look into. Good luck on getting everything ready for the move, (our move is still very fresh in my memory). Have a great week!

  22. I’m so jealous of US Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’ve got both here (in Germany), but there’s very little on it. Still better than German tv, but missing some of my favorite tv shows (like Gilmore Girls; I wanted to rewatch too before the revival!). Plus, on Amazon, most of the shows are dubbed and just available in German, which makes no sense to me, because the originals are all in English.
Haha, sorry, just a bit jealous. Sounds like you had a great week though!

    • That doesn’t seem fair at all!! Same goes for those kindle freebies. I have a uk friend that told me the freebies I share aren’t always free in Europe. How unfair is that?!

  23. I love Gilmore Girls and I am so excited about the revival. I can’t wait! I rejoined Prime this past Christmas and I am enjoying the new features too. I like Prime Music. It reminds me of Rhapsody when I used to be able to listen to albums I like. Pandora is nice but not quite the same.

I’ll have to check out My Lady Jane. I love that time period.
Christina T recently posted…Sunday Post (52) / It’s Monday, What Are You Reading

    • We finished season 6 last night. I’m sad to keep going because who knows when the revival when come out! I agree Pandora was nice but not the same. I like being able to listen to an entire cd if I want or just one artist.
My Lady Jane is good so far, not very historical, but still good 🙂

  24. My Lady Jane does seem like it would be fun, I hope you enjoy it! Daredevil is so violent! I swear you hear a bone break in every single episode and it always makes me cringe! Hope you have a great week, Lillian!

  25. I loved MLJ! It is one of my favorite books I have read this year. Your life recap is making me miss free time. I can’t tell you the last time I watched a tv show or movie all the way through an episode and wasn’t doing something else as well.

    Happy reading.
