Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
This week’s topic is “All About Books You Read Because of Recommendation.” Amazon recommends a lot of books for me to read, but I’m always skeptical. Those recommendations are always hit or miss, with little in between. However I have discovered more than one favorite author through recommendations from friends and even one from Amazon. Here are my top ten favorite books I’ve read because of a recommendation in no particular order (covers link to Amazon).
Top Ten Favorite Book Recommendations
Kiss of Fire by Rebecca Ethington: Amazon recommended this book to me after reading the author’s other book Through Glass and the rest is history. I fell in love with the series and the author’s work. I’m pretty sure I’ve read everything she’s written and love it!
The Unearthly by Laura Thalassa: This book was recommended to me by a friend and this girl has good taste 😀 I fell for the series and have now read everything the author’s got out. Wonderful author, amazing series!
Poison Princess by Kresley Cole: This book was recommended to me by the same friend that recommended The Unearthly, like I said, she’s got good taste 😉 I love this series. It’s the only thing I’ve read by this author. I love her mix of dystopian, mythology and fantasy.
Sanctum by Sarah Fine: Another Amazon recommendation gone right. I had just finished the Beautiful Creatures series and got an email from Amazon with the recommendation for this book. It was on a free promotion because book two was coming out so I gave it a try and I’m SO glad I did. Loved it!
Rising by Holly Kelly: My friend with the good taste recommended this one to me as well. I was skeptical as this is a story with mermaids, but I shouldn’t have been. Love this series!
Defy by Sara B. Larson: This was a Goodreads recommendation after I read the Graceling series and I have to say I was surprised at how well I liked it. It’s an interesting historical fantasy type read. Highly recommend it 😀
Paper Princess by Erin Watt: This book kept popping up in my newsfeed on Facebook and then a group I’m in on Facebook decided we should group read it. It’s SO unlike anything I usually read but I fell in love and devoured it.
Ashfall by Mike Mullin: This was another group read recommendation that I loved. I’m a sucker for dystopians, and this one is a post-apocalyptic type dystopian, my favorite kind. It’s well written with a strong male leading character.
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare: I’ve had several friends over the years tell me I should read this series. I’d love it they said. And they were right. Why I put it off so long I’ll never know.
Written in Red by Anne Bishop: I kept hearing about this book from fellow bloggers and several told me I should read it. They were right of course. I love this series and it’s dry humor.

Written in Read – one of my favorite series ever. I’m always so glad when I find someone else who has given it a shot and has loved it as much as I have. I seriously want a Weather Pony. They are so awesome. The last book comes out in March and I’m already depressed.

I love The Others series. It’s a fun urban fantasy.
Sometimes Amazon’s book suggestions make me raise an eyebrow and shake my head, but I have come across a few winners before!

Same thing happened to me with Paper Princess, it was everywhere and I picked it up, I was hooked from the first chapter and now I can’t wait for Twisted Palace!
