Today I have not one but two really great books I wanted to share with you. The Spearwood Academy serial series by author A.S. Oren is one of my favorite quick reads. It’s released in volumes every couple of months and really I have a hard time being patient in between 😉 This author likes to leave you hanging!!! If you enjoy urban fantasy with lots of pop culture references (some of my favorite by the way), then I highly suggest you check out this indie author.

Spoiler Warning: If you haven’t read the series thus far, read reviews at your own risk! There are minor, unavoidable spoilers from previous volumes.

Avalon, with the help of her boys, has escaped Spearwood Academy. They want to repair her mind, but she has to want it in the end. The Sea Witch will give her more than she bargained for, and her past will come to light. Will she get her old self back, or will she be Avalon Roseman in her mind for the rest of time?

Oh my!! This book picks up right where volume 2 left off. Avalon has just been given a tonic from the Sea Witch and her memories are slowly starting to come back, but they are all jumbled and confused. She has a hard time sorting through what memories occurred and when. Also she has a hard time believing any of them are real.

What I really liked about this volume is that despite what is happening to Avalon, she is still the strong character she’s always been. She’s also a bit vulnerable this volume and allows her boys to take care of her, something she usually stoutly refuses.

But what makes this volume a favorite of mine is that we, the readers, FINALLY get some answers 😀 The whole time I was reading the book I was like “Hey! That makes sense!” and “I did not expect that” which was exciting and had me flying through the pages and finishing this volume in two hours.

If you enjoy urban fantasy, young adult/new adult literature, and lots of pop culture references (specifically to Naruto, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter) then go check this series out. It won’t disappoint 🙂

Final Conclusion:

I received this book via the author, A.S. Oren. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Series: Spearwood Academy, #4

Length: 102 pages
Reviewing eARC from the author, A.S. Oren
Rating:

Avalon Clementine, the first female of her kind, is painfully cursed to turn into her dragon form every night.

With the help of her boys, members of the secretive Vox, they try to find a cure.
All the while, seeking to defeat the evil of her half-brother Aibek.
Can they succeed, or will Greed, Jealously, and Love stand in their way?

In Volume Four Aibek's reign begins: forcing pain onto the world. Avalon and her boys must stop him. Love and Darkness will come to fruition.

I think my heart may have exploded while reading this volume!!! Just like the other volumes, volume 4 picks up right where volume 3 left off. Having been betrayed by (((sobs))) Triton, Avalon, her parents, and her boys face off against Aibek, Avalon’s evil older brother. Barely escaping with their lives, Avalon somehow transports everyone back to the orchard she called home for so many years. Her memories are starting to come back in force now and she is learning about all the powers she once had along with the love she left behind.

I won’t spoil the romance in this book, other than to say I was shocked that my ship changed course. I’m sorta shipping either Bullocks or Lusk with Avalon, don’t ask because I can’t explain my love for those two 😉 But I do love this boy that Avalon apparently also loves and dang the author if she doesn’t rip my heart out in the process of Avalon recovering her memories!

This volume is a bit longer than the previous two and sees the characters in some intense situations. I was sweating and barely breathing through some parts as I worried what would happen to Avalon’s boys and her. But this volume kind of centers around the romance between Avalon and one of her boys. It’s actually very sweet and heartbreaking. The author in true fashion leaves us the readers with a helluva cliffhanger! I may have actually cursed and threw my Kindle down when I realized there wasn’t another page. 😳 I NEED volume 5 like NOW!!!!

If you enjoy urban fantasy, young adult/new adult literature, and lots of pop culture references (specifically to Naruto, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter) then go check this series out. It won’t disappoint 🙂

    • It’s good! I use to hate serials but then I kinda got addicted to them. They are perfect for a distraction inbetween reads. This one each volume is around 100 pages so I don’t feel ripped off 😉
