Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This week’s topic is “Movie Freebie,” and there were several movies I was excited for this year. Here are my ten favorites from 2016 so far (in order by release date):

X-Men: Apocalypse: I love superhero movies and the X-Men have always been my favorites. I was so excited to see this movie. We didn’t actually make it to theater to see it but watched it about a month ago at home. Still loved it! I love this reboot with the younger actors playing beloved characters. And of course what would an X-Men movie be without a cameo from Hugh Jackman?! Though it’s a little more than a cameo 😉

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows: I was the girl in elementary school who had a TMNT lunch box instead of Hello Kitty. I LOVE the turtles! And while I’m a little sad this reboot is more family friendly, I do love it! It pays homage to the original comics and cartoon while creating a new Turtles universe.

Finding Dory: I’m not sure who was more excited for this: me or my son. My son loves Finding Nemo even if it came out about 8 years before he was born. It has always been one of his favorites, mine too 😀 This sequel lived up to and exceeded my expectations. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and grab a copy this weekend. Santa may be sneaking ours under the tree a little early this year!

Independence Day: Resurgence: Another sequel that I was skeptical about but absolutely could not wait to see. I was so excited to see this that I requested to watch it on our 10 year anniversary date 😀 And he came through! I loved the way the screenwriters blended the iconic characters of the original into the this storyline and introduced a younger generation that survived the aftermath of the first invasion.

Ghostbusters: Can I just say that this movie was 10x better than I expected it to be?! I loved the originals and when I heard that it was being rebooted I was skeptical to say the least. In fact I was determined I wouldn’t like it. I was wrong. I loved it! Snarky, dry humor at its best. AND can I just say that Chris Hemsworth is hilarious?! Who knew?!

Star Trek Beyond: I have always been a staunch Star Wars fan, you know so for me to say how much I love this new Star Trek franchise is saying a lot. I’ve always argued that Star Wars was better. Chris Pine as Kirk is changing my mind. But it isn’t just him. The whole cast does a phenomenal job along with the visual effects. I can’t wait for the next one!

Suicide Squad: Who doesn’t love a good villain story, right? I was excited and curious for this one. Can I just say that Harley Quinn is now my favorite character in the DC universe!! I love her, the actress did a great job of bringing out the crazy and portraying it so well.

Ben Hur: Another remake. I loved the Charlton Heston version so I was excited to see an updated version. While it wasn’t the same movie, focusing more on the chariot races than I’d have liked, I did like that the overall message remained the same.

Bridget Jones’s Baby: I love these movies! They don’t get old and somehow the screenwriters keep making me laugh. If you’ve enjoyed the series so far, you don’t want to miss this one.

Arrival: My husband and I saw this over the weekend. The reviews and attention it is getting is well founded. I loved it! I’m a huge sci-fi fan anyways and this movie is perfect. It’s smart and engaging, plus a little suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. Amy Adams is perfect!!
