A reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cutthroat jungle adventure.
I loved this movie in all its corny glory! The Lost City (2022) hit theaters in early March, however I wasn’t able to see it til it came to one of my streaming services in May (this time Paramount+, which is quickly becoming one of my favorites). Loretta Sage, played by the fabulous Sandra Bullock, is a popular adventure romance novelist. With her latest book hiting shelves after the death of her husband and muse, Loretta is in need of a break. She no longer has the desire to write nor go on the crazy book tours or put up with her gorgeous, but ditzy cover model Adam. But when she is kidnapped by a billionaire who thinks she has the knowledge to find the real lost city of D, it’s up to Adam, played by Channing Tatum, to rescue her.
As an avid reader, I found the plot to this one so much fun! I loved that the characters were an author and cover model. The fact that the plot was based on one of the author’s books was ingenious and a fun twist. Sandra Bullock never ceases to amaze me. She can literally be any character she wants and pull it off with finesse. And I always seem to forget how funny Channing Tatum can be. Let’s not forget either Daniel Radcliffe. He pulls off eccentric/evil billionaire a little too well 😉
There are several cameos, my favorite being Brad Pitt who is hilarious in his small role. If you’re expecting him to have a big part, I’m sorry to disappoint you that his role is quite short, but also memorable.
Overall, if you are a fan of romantic comedy, I highly recommend you set aside some time to watch this one. It’s funny and poignant at times while also serving up a romance novel in a new form. Loved it!
