Happy New Year’s Eve y’all! Today marks the end of 2024, and I wanted to go out with one of my favorite posts: the end of the year survey. It’s been a few years (2019, yikes!) since I participated in this survey, but it is such a fun way to look back over what I read this year and what I’m looking forward to next year. This year has been hard personally, which has affected my reading. I didn’t read as much as I wanted to, but I still read more than last year so I’ll call it a win.

2024 Reading Stats

Number Of Books I Read: 85 (this includes audios)
Number of Re-Reads: 7
Genre I Read The Most From: Fantasy, with Romance a close second

Best in Books

Best Book I Read in 2024

Book Cover for "Heir" by Sabaa Tahir

I devoured Heir by Sabaa Tahir. It was the first book I’ve read by this author, so I didn’t realize that this is a sequel series to her popular Ember Quartet. I loved it. The intricate world building, the magic system, how the character’s lives intertwine…it all comes together beautifully. I did have the opportunity to listen to this one before it was released, and y’all if you like audiobooks, this one is excellent!

Book I Was Excited About & Thought I Would Love More But Didn’t

Book cover for "A Queen's Game" by Katharine McGee

I was so excited for this book. I love McGee’s American Royals series so I had high hopes for this one. Those were dashed. While I liked the liberties the author took with the historical narrative, I found myself bored. I know the end game for the women involved in the story because, well, history, and I couldn’t let myself get swept away in the drama.

Most Surprising Book I Read

Book Cover for "Virch" by Laura Resau

This was not at all what I was expecting. Virch follows one teen on an island working for a science corporation. I feel like I can’t say much because I don’t want to ruin it. Let’s just say it deals with AI and virtual reality and what happens when the two get mixed up. I still think about the ending of this book 😅

Best Series Starter in 2024

Book Cover for "Heir" by Sabaa Tahir

Best Sequel in 2024

Book Cover for "These Twisted Bonds" by Lexi Ryan

Best Series Finale in 2024

Book Cover for "Where the Library Hides" by Isabel Ibañez

Favorite New-To-Me Author in 2024

Book Cover for "These Hollow Vows" by Lexi Ryan

Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year

Book Cover for "Into the Sunken City" by Dinesh Thiru

Into the Sunken City was easily one of my favorite reads this year. It sucked me in from the first words, and I couldn’t read it fast enough! This is a dystopian about a young girl who somehow gets roped into diving for treasure in the sunken city of Las Vegas. So good!

Book I Read In 2024 That I Would Be MOST Likely To Re-Read Next Year

Book Cover for "Heir" by Sabaa Tahir

I am really hoping to read the Ember Quartet next year, and if I do, I have every intention of re-reading Heir to catch all the stuff I didn’t catch the first time around.

Favorite Book Cover of 2024

Book Cover for "House of Flame and Shadow" by Sarah J. Maas

Most memorable character of 2024

Xishi from A Song to Drown Rivers is unforgettable. She is one of the four beauties of China and fated to save her kingdom from the Wu.

Book Series I can’t believe I waited UNTIL 2024 to finally read

Favorite Quote From A Book You Read In 2024

And perhaps this was the truth about the dead. You went on. They’d want you to.

OTP OF THE YEAR

My one true pairing of 2024 is….

Finn and Brie from These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan

I loved these two. This is a perfect enemies to lovers pairing. I liked how the author built their relationship and subsequently tore it apart multiple times. I also liked that the duology was finished so I got to see my OTP sail into the sunset.

Book That Put A Smile On My Face

Book Cover for "The Rom-Commers" by Katherine Center

My Blogging/Bookish Life

New Favorite BookToker in 2024

Most challenging thing about blogging and reading this year

I had to find a new routine, one that would work with all the hats I’m currently juggling. Once I found that, I felt like I was doing really good. Then we lost my grandmother, and I have worked to find it again. 2024 was all about finding joy in reading and blogging again, and I think I’ve found it. 2025 will be better 🤞

Most Popular Post This Year On the Blog

Did I complete any reading challenges or goals that I had set for myself at the beginning of this year?

Why yes I did 🙌 I did not complete my Goodreads goal of 100 books, however I read more pages than last year by almost a thousand so I’d say that’s ok. I participated in 6 reading challenges this year, and I completed my goals for half of them. That’s a win, right? 🙃

Looking Ahead

One Book I Didn’t Get To In 2024 But Will Be My Number 1 Priority in 2025

  1. Ooh nice! I’m hoping to write my post like this today! I’ve decided I am holding off on reading Heir as I know how Tahir likes to write (I love her books, but not the cliffhangers! Lol) so I am waiting until the sequel comes out. As of now it’s a duology, but we’ll have to see if that changes too! Lol.

  2. I read the first book in the Ember series, but never got around to the rest of it. I really did like the first one! Didn’t realize Heir was related to that series. I need to continue on in Armentrout’s series too. And I have a copy of Where the Library Hides since I just read the first book in that series and LOVED it! Here’s to a good year of reading in 2025!
