Audrey Callahan left behind her life in the Edge, and she's determined to stay on the straight and narrow. But when her brother gets into hot water, the former thief takes on one last heist and finds herself matching wits with a jack of all trades...
Kaldar Mar-a gambler, lawyer, thief, and spy-expects his latest assignment tracking down a stolen item to be a piece of cake, until Audrey shows up. But when the item falls into the hands of a lethal criminal, Kaldar realizes that in order to finish the job, he's going to need Audrey's help...
Fate’s Edge by Ilona Andrews is the third book set in the The Edge. Audrey Callahan moved across the country to start a new life for herself, but her father keeps finding her. This time he promises to leave her alone if she’ll do one more job for him. Kalder Mar, former grifter and con man, is now a spy for the Mirror. His latest assignment has him tracking down a stolen magical item which leads him straight to Audrey’s doorstep. Now he needs to convince her to work with him to find the item before the Hand does.
I love heist stories, and this one fits the bill. It is full of adventure, high-stakes crime, and a bit of romance. I really enjoyed Audrey. She’s different from the last two MFC in the series. She grew up running cons with her family, never having a true home, and trusting no one. All of this has shaped the adult we meet here. Audrey has a legal job doing something she enjoys, a pet raccoon, and a home to call her own. Then Kalder shows up to ruin it all.
We first met Kalder in book two. He’s Cerise’s cousin, raised with her like a brother. His cons are what has kept the family in the Mire alive. After losing the aunt who raised him, he’s out for revenge against the Hand which is why he agreed to work with the Mirror. Every job gets him a step closer to his revenge, but he wasn’t expecting Audrey.
These two are so much fun. They argue about everything, but also work together really well. It reminds me of a couple who has been married a long time, that’s how they work. But as much as I liked Audrey and Kalder, George and Jack stole the show. The two stowaway on Kalder’s wyvern at the start of the book and beg him not to send them back. He winds up letting them work with him. I adored their storyline here.
Overall, I really enjoyed Fate’s Edge. It’s my favorite of the series so far. Audrey and Kalder were a perfect pairing, and George and Jack added levity. If you are a fan of urban fantasy, heists, and a touch of romance, I highly recommend it.
Audiobook Note: I opted to listen and give the narrator another chance. I don’t know if it was the story itself or if the narrator was that much better, but I really enjoyed listening. I did speed it up faster than my normal to 2.5x though.

We will be continuing the series with book four, Steel’s Edge, on April 25th. Come join us.
I’m loving my reread of this series.
