Tomorrow is a historic day in my house. It marks the day that I married my best friend, my one-and-only, my heart. Tomorrow will be eight years since we said “I do” and ten years since we started dating. Just look how young we were!!!

To celebrate our anniversary, I thought I would do a special post today featuring my top favorite romantic moments from books. Corny? Yes. Will my husband read this? Probably not. Maybe I should change the title to “Happy Anniversary to Me!!!” 😆 I warn you…..THERE WILL BE SPOILERS….simply because how can I tell you my favorite moments without explaining it a little?

My Favorite Romantic Moments

The following are in no particular order. I love them all equally 🙂

“I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.” -Augustus from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Okay so I don’t particularly have a favorite moment in The Fault in Our Stars but I love the two characters Hazel and Gus, and especially the quote above. Their sweet friendship and first love are heartbreaking. I’m pretty sure I sobbed through most of this book. Haven’t seen the movie yet, but I believe I will be the same with it as well.

“You love me. Real or not real?”

I tell him, “Real.” -Katniss and Peeta from Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Katniss and Peeta are one of my favorite book couples because they are friends first. Yes, Peeta was in love with her since they were kids. But I think it just took Katniss a little longer to realize what was in her own heart. My favorite moment happens in book one of the trilogy. Peeta and Katniss are recovering in the cave and Peeta tells her his side of the story about the bread. While he tells it, she remembers her own feelings about that moment. It’s at this point as a reader you realize something the character does not. She loves him too. At the end of Mockingjay when there is no more war and no Gale to interfere, when she finally admits this to Peeta, I melted.

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope,  and every dream I’ve ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours.” -Noah from The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

When Allie realizes that Noah has loved her all the years they were apart and that he did in fact write her, her life turns upside down. This man she had loved as a girl she realizes she still loves. And now she has a hard decision. She has to decide between her fiancé and Noah. Either way someone gets hurt, but Noah tells her to do what makes her happy and not to worry about the rest.  Allie of course makes the right decision 😉

“I fell in love with him. But I don’t just stay with him by default as if there’s no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other, I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me.” -Tris from Allegiant by Veronica Roth

So anyone that’s read the Divergent series probably has mixed feelings about the last book. In fact I know many that hated the book!!! Personally I thought it a fitting end to the series, even if it did break my heart to say goodbye to a favorite character. But I love Tris and Tobias! After a particularly nasty fight, the first for them, Tris leaves on an assignment and Tobias has his own way of dealing with his issues. It takes a realization on Tris’s part to understand her love for and relationship with Tobias. When she returns from assignment she goes straight to him and tells him the above. The sentiment is so fitting for a mature relationship. We all want the first love mentality but that goes away. I love when she says she chooses him to love because that is the same for me. I fell in love with my husband, but I daily choose to stay in love with him 🙂

“I race you.” -Colton from the Driven trilogy by K. Bromberg

Alright, before you say anything, yes I know this book falls into erotica, but let me explain. This trilogy is much more than you’re average erotica. The characters actually have substance and I was fully invested in their story. Colton has a badly scarred youth and even after twenty years can’t say the word love without it meaning something different to him. Riley works with foster children and one of the things she does with them because many are like Colton and associate love with bad memories is she takes a toy or something the kids truly enjoy and replaces the word love with it. So like my son loves Batman. If I did this with him, I would say “I Batman you.” Make sense? When Colton finally tells Riley he loves her, he uses the same verbiage she uses with her boys. He’s a race car driver so he tells her he races her!!! One of my all-time favorite moments in the series. Riley cried and of course I did too…..just a little.

Ilyan had known for eight hundred years about me, he had known my face, known some semblance of a future. And yet, he said nothing. -from Eyes of Ember by Rebecca Ethington

This particular scene takes place over two chapters and I must say that I fell madly in love with Ilyan. I was already pulling for him, but this sealed it. He’s a thousand years old. When he was two hundred, he was lonely, wanted a life partner, but because of his strong magic believed no one was there for him. We went to the seers to ask if anyone would be his, they showed him Joclyn, but she was destined for Ryland. Ilyan would only be her protector. After everything that happened in book one and the beginning of this book in the series, Joclyn realizes just how much she loves him too, but that she can’t be his and her heart breaks. This scene is both romantic and heartbreaking all at the same time. Yet Ilyan is happy that he finally has her.
