Mom-Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. They’d love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Today’s topic is “Ten Books To Read If You Like This Super Popular Book/Author” and instantly I thought of the series Throne of Glass possibly because I just read Queen of Shadows at the beginning of the month and am suffering a massive book hangover from it. Not many authors can achieve what Sarah J. Maas has with this series. It contains a wonderful epic fantasy element, with touches of romance and dystopia, all contained in this beautiful world created by Maas.

So naturally, what books are like Throne of Glass? What books are similar enough to get us fans through the long year in between books? Here’s a few that I think measure up 😉

Ten Books You Should Read if You Like Throne of Glass

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – One of my favorite books from 2015 so far! This book contains the epic fantasy feel, dystopian, and a kick-butt heroine. Mare is on the outside and doesn’t quite fit in, like our dear Celaena. I’m excited to see where this series goes!

The Young Elites by Marie Lu – Like Throne of Glass, The Young Elites is set in its own unique world of the author’s creation. The MC has some cool powers too AND instead of being the heroine she is our villain. Definitely a darker read, but oh so good!

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch – This one is my favorite find this year. I adored this book! It’s almost a cross between Game of Thrones and Throne of Glass. That’s the best way I know to describe it. It’s an epic fantasy, but focuses more on the dystopian aspects of the characters and their plight.

Of River and Raynn- The Catalyst by Rebecca Ethington – What list of mine does not contain Rebecca Ethington?! This girl can write! And her newest series which came out late last year is phenomenal. It starts with an urban fantasy feel, but quickly moves into an epic fantasy complete with its own world and a seriously fabulous cast of characters 😀

Broken Aro by Jen Wylie – This author was one of the first to ever contact me directly about reviewing her work and I have to say that this series is the bomb!!! Aro is one of my all-time favorite characters and I’m SO sad that the next book in this series will bring it to a close. I would be content to keep reading it. The Broken Ones series is another epic fantasy, dystopian, set in a world similar but not quite ours. The cast of characters in addition to the MC is perfection!

Gates of Thread and Stone by Lori M. Lee – I don’t even know how to describe this book! It’s THAT good 😀 A perfect mix of mythology and fantasy with a dash of dystopian makes it a great book to curl up and sink your teeth into. The story focuses on a young woman who wants…no needs…to save her brother from the mysterious king. Just trust me…you need to read this book like yesterday!

Graceling by Kristin Cashore – I finally read this book just a couple of weeks ago and I have to wonder what rock I was hiding under to have missed it! Like Throne of Glass, the MC works for the king, doing his dirty work, but she has a little rebellion going on the side. It’s epic fantasy and honestly it’s several years old so you may have already read it 😉

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey – This was a new release this year and I debated including it on the list, then decided it had to be included! It’s urban fantasy, but the heroine is kick-butt like Celaena AND the whole good vs. evil thing that’s going on is perfect. Awesome debut!!!

Daughter of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor – Again I debated including this one. This one shares a lot of traits with The Girl at Midnight, but essentially it is an urban fantasy with some mythology thrown in. The world and creatures Taylor creates though are magnificent and the overall feel of the book is the same as Throne of Glass…you won’t want to sit it down!!!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas – How could I not include SJ Maas’s other series to this list?! ACOTAR is amazing and I might even say I like it better than Throne of Glass…we’ll see as the series progresses. It’s an epic fantasy, loosely based on the original Beauty and the Beast with some very liberal changes due to the author’s imagination. Trust me it’s a must read!!!

Your Turn!!!

What books would you add to my list? Any good recommendations for me. Comment below 😀

  1. Have you read anything by Tamora Pierce? She has several series set in the world of Tortall, and while they aren’t quite as gritty as Throne of Glass, they are absolutely fantastic 🙂 But that’s a great list! I love fantasy novels, so I always get excited when I see they make people’s lists!
