The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control. But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?
Initial Reaction:
It’s taken me a couple of weeks to regroup after reading Victoria Aveyard’s debut novel Red Queen. I devoured this book and fell in love with the characters and the world they live in. Set in a dystopian world were the color of your blood determines your rank in society, Red Queen is full of romance, action, and betrayal.
Mare is now my new favorite heroine. She’s 17 when her world literally falls apart. Her best friend is drafted into a war that is a century old and it’s up to her to find a way to save him. She’s quick-tempered, snarky, and loves her family. In fact she would do anything if it meant she could save them. And save them she does 😀
Told only from Mare’s perspective, the author does an amazing job of building the world and making it believable. Not only that but I fell in love with the other characters as well and I’m just as invested in them as I am Mare. Throughout the entire book, the author kept me guessing and had me falling in and out of love with the different men in Mare’s life. And I can honestly say that I was shocked at the twist ending even though I knew a twist was coming. It was nothing that I could’ve predicted and my heart ached for Mare and everyone involved.
Overall I loved this story and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. I CANNOT wait for book two and I’m so eager to learn more about the mystery surrounding Mare and her powers. If you enjoy fantasy with a little romance I highly suggest you check out this series!
Quote to sum it up:
Many things led to this day, for all of us. A forgotten son, a vengeful mother, a brother with a long shadow, a strange mutation. Together, they have written a tragedy.
Final Conclusion: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I know a lot of people have said it was predictable and too much like other books but I’ve not read a lot of what they were comparing it too. Hope you enjoy it 🙂
Great review. I can’t wait to read this one. It feels like it’s been on my TBR list forever.

[…] Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – One of my favorite books from 2015 so far! This book contains the epic fantasy feel, dystopian, and a kick-butt heroine. Mare is on the outside and doesn’t quite fit in, like our dear Celaena. I’m excited to see where this series goes! […]
