Bound By Flames by Jeaniene Frost is third installment in A Night Prince Novel, a spinoff of the Night Huntress world featuring my favorite character Vlad and his new bride Leila. There is something to learn on every page of this one, and the pulse pounding speed of the plot will have you begging for more by the end. Please note that if you haven’t read the previous books of this series, there will be minor spoilers ahead.
Leila is a newly turned vampire (I’m unclear on the timing of this book, but I’m putting it at just a few weeks after the events of book two) and still learning her place in Vlad’s world. The two butt heads constantly. Vlad is set in his ways, unyielding, and Leila is a modern-day woman, independent and not used to decisions being made for her. Leila loves Vlad, and Vlad doesn’t really know how to show/express his love for her. This creates a whole new set of problems for the couple. Add to that a murderous vampire that everyone thought dead and it’s a whole new ball game.
The action for this one is nonstop from kidnappings to curses to New Orleans and Cat. I found myself unable to put the book down. It’s a quick read (or in my case listen). The excitement of the plot drove the story. I loved how Leila handles herself through each obstacle and proves that she is Vlad’s equal in more ways than one.
Overall I really enjoyed this one. I listened as I have the previous books. Tavia Gilbert has a unique voice/tone for each character making the story easy to follow. However her intimate scenes make me cringe (What can I say? I’m a prude 😅). Despite this, I still highly recommend it for fans of urban fantasy/paranormal romance.
