Down The TBR Hole is a meme originally created by Lia @ Lost in a Story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. Lia is no longer blogging, so Jody @ I’m Into Books has taken over. Be sure to join the linky on her site!
Happy Saturday y’all! I’m back and ready to continue my journey down the TBR hole today. As of writing this post, my current Goodreads TBR shelf has 281 books on it; my physical shelf, my ARC shelf, and Kindle TBR shelf have more than I care to share at this time (mainly because I don’t want to count them). Want to join me?
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly (or monthly like me), you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the blurbs of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
I will only being doing this once a month, typically the first Saturday. And I’m probably going to do 10 or more each time. I’m starting with my Goodreads TBR. I’d like to leave only books I plan to read on there and remove all the others. I started this journey on a TTT post. You can follow the journey here: Down the TBR Hole.

Once Upon a Dickens Christmas by Michelle Griep
This is a three book standalone series that retells some of the classic Dickens stories and sets them in Victorian England. I really enjoyed the first one, enough so that I bought the box set to read the next two. I think I will make these a priority during the holidays this year 😉
Verdict: STAYS
The Blood Spell by C.J. Redwine
I have enjoyed all the books in this series. Each one is a standalone set in the same world and retells a classic fairytale. I love fairytale retellings and each one in this series has reminded me why I love them. I cannot wait to read this one. Now I just need to carve out some time to do so.
Verdict: STAYS
The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige
I really enjoyed book one of this series. I need to make some time to finish it. I own the entire series in paperback. One of these days *sighs wistfully* The next two on my TBR are the last ones in this series. Following my rule set earlier while doing this meme, I will remove those for now with the intent that they will return after I read book 2 😉
Verdict: STAYS
Somehow my husband has read this one before I got to it 🤦🏼♀️ He liked it so much that he’s read the entire series and Kristoff’s latest release Empire of the Vampire. I love all of the author’s other books so I need to make time to read this one ASAP.
Verdict: STAYS
I love all superhero/villain novels so I was super excited when this series came out. I have them all in hardback so one of these days I will read them.
Verdict: STAYS
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I am clearly invested in the world of the Mortal Instruments. I just need to make time to read them! I have read the first four books in the series that started it all. One of these days I will get to the rest of them 😅
Verdict: STAYS
The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram
Kelly Oram is one of my favorite authors. Her books always leave me with a smile. I’m slowly working my way through her backlist and attempting to keep up with any new releases she has. One of these days I will get to this one!
Verdict: STAYS
More Than Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram
Remember what I said about slowly working through Oram’s backlist? I loved the first book in this series and cannot wait to dive into book two. I just need time….
Verdict: STAYS
Last Oram book for this post 😉 I have purposely put this one off because it is an unfinished series, and I’d prefer to binge it once it’s finished. That is the only reason I haven’t read this one just yet.
Verdict: STAYS
I came across this book at my local bookstore. It was in the bargain bin. All I needed to know about it was that it was a Peter Pan retelling. One of these days I will make time to finally read it 😉
Verdict: STAYS

The Running Tally
While I didn’t remove any books listed on today’s meme, I did remove several that I came across that were duplicates or later books in a series that I haven’t read the prior books yet (like books 3 and 4 when book 2 is still on the TBR). That is reflected in the totals below 😉
Books Removed
113
Books Kept
172
Total on TBR
274
Your Turn! Any books I should move to the top of my list? Any I didn’t keep you think I should? Share below
I would have kept most of these too! When I went through my Goodreads list and was doing this, I did find a lot of times I’d added whole series so I deleted all except the one I still needed to read before going on. I mean if I don’t end up liking that one I might not go on, right? Great job!
