Happy Wednesday y’all! Today is the 1st update for the 2023 Bookish Resolutions Challenge hosted by Michelle & Berls @ Because Reading. I originally set 8 bookish/reading goals for myself. You can see my sign up post here. So the year started off strong, and then was quickly derailed by all the life happenings 😅 My husband’s clinic moved into a larger space so I am now working there with him full time during the week. I enjoy it, but it threw my routine off. As a result my reading (and the blog) has suffered the last few weeks. Despite that, I’m doing decent on my goals for the year. I’ll break each one down below.
Read 125 books in 2023.
As of this morning, I’ve read 24 books since Jan. 1st putting me on track to exceeding this goal. I may reevaluate this one and up the goal mid-year. Buddy reading is keeping me on track. I can’t get enough of it!
Make at least half my reads in 2023 from my TBR shelves (physical, Kindle, or Goodreads).
It’s safe to say this goal is going well. Of the 24 books I’ve read this year, 19 have been TBR or backlist books. Again, buddy reading for the win!
Listen to one audiobook a week.
So….I made the decision late last year to start listening more. I’ve been suffering from migraines, and I found after a day or two of reading on my Kindle or a paperback that I couldn’t focus or I’d have to take a break. That revelation led me to audiobooks. We are on week 9 of 2023, and I’ve listened to 15 audiobooks so far. While I haven’t listened to one a week, I am averaging one per week so I call that a win.
Read, on average, 2 hours per day or 60 hours per month.
As of writing this post, I’ve read for a total of 131 hours since Jan. 1st. (Thank you Bookly!)…at least that’s what I’ve tracked of my reading 😉 This averages out to 2.2 hours per day so I am right on track.
Raise my NetGalley percentage to 80%
I’m not to 80%….YET. For the first time in several years though, I did see my feedback percentage go up two points so I’m heading in the right direction.
DNF books I’m not enjoying.
This has been so hard for me still. Though I have DNFed more than I used to. I’m sticking by the rules I set for myself: if I can’t recommended, wouldn’t gift it to a friend, or rate it 3 or more stars, I’m putting it down.
Write reviews as I finish the books.
In January, I was nailing this goal. Then February hit. I slacked big time. I haven’t written a single review all month. 🫣 As a result, you may have noticed I was missing last month on the blog. Hoping to catch up this week.
Pick 1 Audiobook Book, 1 E-Book or Physical Book, and 1 NetGalley ARC a week to read and either complete them or release them.
I’ve been doing decent with this one. I’m picking more NetGalley than anything else, but I’m getting it done, and typically have 2 books going at the same time.
Your Turn! How are you doing with your bookish resolutions so far this year? Share below
I love audiobooks! My eyes don’t like it when I read physical books hahah I get a lot of eye strain so audiobooks have been a savior for me. I can also listen while doing other things, so I can get more read! Glad you added those to your goal!
Molly @ Molly’s Book Nook recently posted…February Wrap-Up & March TBR
I like your Netgalley one book a week or let it go goal. I should do that to get some of those books I need to review from years ago off my shelf. I wish I could do one audiobook a week, but since I currently only listen in my car, I can’t quite get that done. However if I start getting out to the park and walking again once the weather gets nicer, maybe I can get more listened to then! Great job on getting books from your TBR shelves read too, I need to work on that more. Here is my February wrap-up post: https://lisalovesliterature.bookblog.io/2023/03/01/the-looooong-and-the-short-of-it-with-a-giveaway-february-2022-wrap-up-post-and-what-to-expect-in-march-2/
