Merry Mondays #5 – New Year, New Me

Posted December 29, 2014 by Lillian in Merry Mondays / 17 Comments

***Note: I would like to start this post by saying I’m sorry to anyone that has been looking for it or wanting to link to it. I accidentally scheduled it to go live tonight instead of last night 😳 Here it is a little late. Sorry for any inconvenience!***

Merry Mondays is a weekly meme hosted here @ Mom With a Reading Problem during the month of December to celebrate Christmas and the holiday season. Each week a different topic centered around the holidays will be discussed.

I cannot believe that today is the last day of Merry Mondays until next year! My how 2014 has flown by. Today’s topic is “New Year’s Resolutions” and it correlates really well with the Broke and Bookish’s Top Ten Tuesday topic this week “Top Ten Resolutions for the New Year (blogging, bookish, or otherwise)” so I’ve linked my post to them as well.

I have a lot of resolutions every year and 9 out of 10 times I don’t follow through with them. However, this year I think my goals can and will be met. I mean really how embarrassing would it be to not meet them when I’ve published them for all the world to see 😯

My Resolutions for a New Me in 2015

Personal Goals

1. Lose Weight

I’m tired of being the fat mama on the block. I’ve struggled with weight my entire life. I’m now 28 years old and easily 100lbs overweight. It’s time to do something about it. I want to be a mama my son can be proud of. So I know I can’t lose 100lbs in a year (healthily) so I have goals set within this one and it will probably last longer than one year.

  • 1st goal: -30lbs from start weight
  • 2nd goal: -50lbs from start weight
  • 3rd goal: -70lbs from start weight
  • Final goal: -90lbs from start weight (this will be less than I weighed in high school! I will be happy to meet my 3rd goal and stay between it and my final goal weight)

I will not post any before pics until I’ve met my first goal and I promise to do a short post on here to keep me honest.

2. Run a 5K

This goal kinda goes hand in hand with my first. I’ve always wanted to run a 5k and there are several around my area that I’d like to participate in. (Will update links when available)

  • Paint the Town 5k  (2/28)
  • Jogging for the Noggin 5k (3/6)
  • Run for the Booty 5k Color Run (4/11)

There’s also a running group that does a 5 mile circuit each week on the local university campus. Once I’ve built up some stamina of my own I’ll have to join them 😉

3. Try New Foods

I am the world’s pickiest eater. It is much easier to tell you what I will eat instead of what I won’t. In fact, I only eat about 6 foods on a regular basis: potatoes, chicken, peas, pinto beans, bread, and chocolate (can’t forget chocolate 😀 )

I’ve attempted this goal in the past with no success. So this year I’m doing it a bit differently. Instead of just trying a bite of one food, I’m going to eat what I cook for dinner. It’s a very strange concept to most who have met me. I LOVE to cook and my husband says I do it well. I experiment on him all the time, yet I’ve never ate what I cook, so it’s time I start doing so. Now do I expect to like it? No, that’s why I’m going to make myself eat the meal whether I have to gag through it or not. Maybe by the end of the meal I’ll like it. That’s the goal (and hope) anyways 😛

4. Read the entire Bible cover to cover

I am a Christian and this defines my life. However, I’ve never read the Bible cover to cover. Yes I’ve read bits and pieces which equal to the entire Bible, but it’s past time that I do this. I’ve found some great reading plans to help me do this.

Personally I think I’ll do the Eat this Book plan. I tried the 90 day plan a few years back and it was TOO much for me in one day. I couldn’t keep up.

Bookish Goals

5. Read 100 New-to-Me Books

According to my Goodreads challenge this year, I’ve read 158 books. Of those, I looked and only about 20 were re-reads. So I believe I can meet this challenge and I’m very excited about it 😀

6. Read TMI and the Outlander series

In case I haven’t bragged on my hubby enough or you haven’t heard yet, I got the entire TMI series in hardback for Christmas and I’m dying to start them. I plan to indulge in them this year at least once if not twice 😉

OutlanderChallenge2

It’s a Book Life is hosting the above reading challenge to read through the entire Outlander series. My vice is historical fiction, specifically romance and how I’ve missed this series over the years boggles my mind. Now that it is also a TV series, I think it’s high-time I read this. Watch for my sign-up post for this challenge later in January.

7. Make half of my reads this year my one-click freebies/sales

I have a serious one-click addiction on my Kindle. This is not new news as I’ve admitted it plenty and pretty much every time I post my book haul on Sundays. Right now my current TBR pile is 118 books, of those only about 15 or so were not on sale or free 😳 So yeah, this year half of my 100 books I’d like to be from this pile. There’s a reading challenge I joined that runs until March 6th, COYER, that I believe will really help me knock out some of these.

Blogging Goals

8. Post EVERY Day

I’m really bad about not posting everyday. This isn’t really a necessary thing, but I’d like too. This way I can have more discussion posts with my reviews and blog features.

9. Blog Ahead

This ties into my Post EVERY day goal. My intention is to start blogging ahead. So like tonight I plan to write my post for tomorrow and one post for next week. I’ll do this every night until I have one month of posts scheduled and I can get myself on track! And not be lazy Susan and be typing away at midnight every night to get my post for tomorrow in.

10. Meet New Friends 😀

As a baby blogger, (I’ll be one year old in February 😉 ) I’m starting to make connections with other bloggers and that’s important to me. I joined my first challenge two weeks ago and I plan to join more. Also I plan to write more discussion type posts and participate in more.

What are your New Year’s resolutions? Do you plan to read more, write more, or are they on a more personal level like a few of mine? I hope to meet some if not all of these this year.

  1. You have so many resolutions, but they all seem quite doable and achievable. So good luck with that. 🙂

I only started reading the Outlander series recently too (I finished the first two books and I’m waiting a bit to start the third one), but I LOVED Outlander. I love Jamie. *drools*

I’ll be keeping an eye on here to see if you’re keeping to your goals!

    *Sloppy air kiss*

  2. These are some great resolutions, many of which I can relate to. I hope to lose a few pounds this coming year. I got a fitbit for Christmas so I’m hoping that will give me some inspiration. I also hope to stay on top of my blogging a little better, especially my book reviews that need to be written.

Thanks for joining the Outlander challenge. It is going to be fun! 🙂 I can’t wait to finally read all the books.

    • Reviews are what I always stay behind on! I have 5 right now that I need to write 😛

Looking forward to your Outlander challenge! The series fits right into my favorite genres, I somehow missed it when it was first released. But you’ve given me a reason to read them 😀

    • Yay! I’m glad your joining the readalong 🙂 I can’t wait to start in on TMI! I plan to read the prequel series too. Hope you have a Happy New Year!

  3. I’m with you on the desire to lose some weight.

A 5K is a great goal and one that it attainable. I did my first one a few years ago and enjoyed it. Of course, I do tend to combine jogging/running with my love of books, listening to audio books on my iPod as I pound out the miles.

    • That’s a great idea! I use to liste to books all the time when I had an 1+ hour drive to work. Now that I stay home, my little won’t let me listen to any! I’m going to go download some audio books right now 😀

  4. Great goals!

Live Healthier is my number 1 goal, too. I lost weight a few years ago, but some crept back on 2014 so it’s time to re-focus. I started a Heathly Lifestyle Books challenge to help me stay on track. You’re welcome to join!

One year, I made a resolution to Make Salad my Favorite Food. It more or less worked! So, I have great hopes for your eat what you cook goal. You can do it!
