TTT #177 – TBR Reads I’m Avoiding

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookishย in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together

Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic is “Book on My TBR I’m Avoiding Reading and Why.” When I first saw the topic for this week, I really wasn’t sure I would participate. I have a ton of books on my TBR that I want to read, and I honestly didn’t think I would find books on that list I was avoiding. Boy was I wrong ๐Ÿ˜‚ There were enough books on my TBR that I’m actively avoiding reading that I wondered why they were even on my TBR list to begin with. Some were simply that I read the first book SO long ago that I wanted to have time to reread it before I continued the series. Others I don’t even remember adding ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Anywaysโ€ฆ.here’s my list of books I’m avoiding on my TBR and why, in no particular order. As always, covers/titles link to Blog/Goodreads/Amazon(aff).

Books on Our TBR I’m Avoiding

The Magicians by Lev Grossman: I actually bought the entire series after my husband and I binge watched the show on Netflix. I loved the Harry Potter and Narnia vibes and thought I’d love the books too. My husband actually wound up picking the first one up and never finished it. He didn’t think I’d like it either, so it’s slowly moved down the pile.

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare: As much as I enjoy this series, I also dread reading it. I’m struggling with the time commitment. Because once I’ve started it, I’m going to want to read all of them in the Shadowhunter universe. That’s just how I am. I’m hoping to finish this series though by the end of the year. ๐Ÿคž

Cracked Kingdom by Erin Watt: I’m not actively avoiding this one. In fact, I just forgot about it when it released. The cliffhanger from the previous book left me broken and I’m honestly afraid to continue.

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon: I loved Outlander. I loved it SO much that I’m afraid to start the second book. I actually did start it, but a certain Scot is missing for the first part of the book (like almost half of it!). When I realized it, I had to sit it down. One of these days, I’ll continue. But not today.

The Dragon’s Curse by Bethany Wiggins: I honestly didn’t realize this book was already out. It’s been on my TBR since I read the first book, but it’s been so long that now I’m avoiding it til I have time to reread and binge the series.

Fireblood by Elly Blake: After the cliffhanger of Frostblood, I purposely avoided this book until the series was complete. Now it is and I just need to carve out some time to binge read.

Cold Summer by Gwen Cole: This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2017. I love historical fiction set during WWII, and this book combined it with time travel. However the early reviews weren’t great, and so it moved towards the bottom of the pile.

War Storm by Victoria Aveyard: Red Queen is one of my favorite series. I own it in ebook and hardcover. I love it. BUT I’m cautious about reading the conclusion. I’ve heard mixed reviews, and a trusted blogger said it was an open ending. Y’all this series is a big time investment and I need a HEA or at the very least a true ending. Now that Broken Throne is out (which I’ve heard gives an ending set a few years after the end of the series), I want to binge, but I need a month or longer to do it ๐Ÿ˜‚

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey: I really enjoyed The 5th Wave. I devoured it. But then I decided to wait until the final book in the series came out to continue reading. Well it’s been a few years now and I forgot to pick up the series to read again. One of these days I’ll have the timeโ€ฆ.maybeโ€ฆ.

The Legend by Melissa Delport: This is another case of wanting to reread before finishing. I absolutely loved the first two books in this new adult dystopia. I need to finish it. I want too. Maybe I can make time next monthโ€ฆ.

    • Thatโ€™s encouraging about City of Lost Souls. One of these days Iโ€™ll get to it. Iโ€™d like to finish the series before the end of the year. *fingers crossed*

  1. Ooh nice! I just finished Nightblood and LOVED it! I can’t remember the first two books really well, but I got the gist of things as I was reading Nightblood. I have to say it was amazing! I hope you will love it (and all of these) when you do get to read them!

Way behind on the Red Queen series as I mentioned! Need to start over at book 2…though hopefully there’s a recap of the first book. Pretty sure there is. I’m gonna need it! Lol.

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!
