Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together
Happy Tuesday y’all! Today’s topic is “Indie/Self-Publish Books.” I have a soft spot for indies. Reviewing for indie/self-published authors was how I got started blogging. Now nine years later, I still love them. Below is a list of my top ten indie authors AND my favorite books from them in no particular order. As always, covers/titles link to the blog, Goodreads, and Amazon (affiliate links).

Laura Thalassa is not just one of my favorite indie authors, but one of my all-time favorites. A friend of mine recommended her book The Unearthly to me back when I first started blogging, and I immediately devoured everything she had released to that point. And now, I drop everything to read her new releases when they come or if I’m lucky enough to receive it in advanced. All of her books deal with fated romance of some sort and range from slightly steamy to smoking. Highly recommend her for fans of fantasy.
Recommend The Unearthly for fans of YA urban fantasy
Recommend The Fallen World series for fans of paranormal romance & dystopia
Recommend Rhapsodic for fans of paranormal romance
If you are a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, you will love Michelle Bryan. Her worlds are immersive. The stories are fast-moving (like read it in one sitting because you don’t want to stop), and the characters are some of my all-time favorites.
Recommend Awaken for fans of YA dystopia
Recommend Strain of Resistance for fans of sci-fi/thriller
Another drop everything to read author! Kelly Oram never ceases to leave me smiling. I’ve read *almost* all of her books, and I have loved every one of them. All of her books feature romance of the sweet variety and are YA appropriate. My three favorites are below, and I highly recommend them to everyone 😀
Penny Reid is one of my all-time favorites. Any time I need to laugh or smile or just want a feel-good romance, she’s my go-to. My favorite of hers is The Winston Brothers series, possibly because I live around the area the fictional town is set in. I’m slowly making my way through her backlist, starting with the Knitting in the City series which I’m loving.
M.A. Wilder is the first indie author (at least the first I knew I was reading) I worked with when I started blogging. Not only was she incredibly sweet to work with, her books are phenomenal. I have happily devoured everything she’s sent my way, and when I’m looking for a new read, I always look her up first to see if she has anything new out. The Té-Trad Tale started it all. Highly recommend for fans of urban fantasy!
If you are on instagram, there is a good chance you’ve seen one of Casey L. Bond‘s books. Her books are gorgeous, inside and out. If you are a fan of fantasy and have not read one of her books, I highly recommend you make that a priority. Her storytelling is fantastic! I happily get lost in her books, fall in love with the characters, and am sad when the stories are over. I am slowly working my way through her backlist.
If you are looking for action and adventure with a touch of magic and heartfelt romance, look no further than Rebecca Ethington. I have read almost all of her stories and enjoyed all of them. All of her books are mostly urban fantasy/paranormal romance based and range from sweet with light steam to smoking hot. My favorites of hers are below.
Highly recommend the Imdalind series, starting with Kiss of Fire for YA fantasy lovers
Recommend Through Glass for fans of dark fantasy / thrillers
Theresa Kay wrote one of my all-time favorite series, Broken Skies. If you like sci-fi and paranormal romance, I highly recommend it. However I love her other works as well. She has a unique voice, and her ability to weave action and romance is unparalleled.
Highly recommend Broken Skies for YA sci-fi fans
Highly recommend Ravencrest Academy for fans of paranormal romance, especially enemies-to-lovers
Forbidden Legacy is the latest release and a personal new favorite 😀
Robin D. Mahle & Elle Madison are a dynamic duo. Their stories are full of heart, adventure, and I guarantee they will make you smile. Beautiful world-building and some of my favorites to get lost in! Highly recommend for fans of fantasy romance.
Your turn! Have you read any of these? I’d love to know your thoughts! What are some of your favorite indie authors or books? Share below 💗
